“Go before I change my mind.”
She smirks and skips over to the spot in the corner of the roof where I told her to stand.
“Here goes nothing.”
ChapterSeven
ATHENA
Holy shit. Holy shit. Holy shit.
I dance back and forth on the balls of my feet while Kashton strips out of his clothes. I stop when he tosses his shirt to the wall. He works on his fly. I just stare at his chest. Kashton has always been built well. He always seemed like a natural athlete. The man is gorgeous. I only have to have eyes to see it. It’s also why I knew that we came from too different worlds. I’m a good looking chick, but I do not come from stock like him.
He’s down to his black boxer briefs and I can’t stop staring. I know I should be a lady and turn around and give him privacy. But he’s the one who said nudity wasn’t a big deal.
And holy hell, I do not want to miss this.
The boxers disappear just as quickly. Then he’s standing there naked and I can’t take my eyes off him. He moves, but then there’s a mass coming at me. All thoughts of the monster between his legs go flying right out of my mind as the mass expanding in front of me grows into a shape.
The black scales ripple across his huge body as Kashton stretches fully into his form. I take a step back to try and get a better look. It’s a dragon standing in front of me.
I know that’s what I wanted. I wanted to see Kashton, all of him as he truly is. I did get more of an eye full than I intended, but this is him.
He’s beautiful. The black scales shimmer like a gemstone with almost an iridescent purple-green undertone in the strange light of the Las Vegas Strip. He’s big, really big. I’ve seen the videos and the news reports and it doesn’t prepare you for seeing one in person.
Something shifts over his shoulder and I realize it’s his wings.
“You have wings,” I burst out loud without meaning to.
I do. They’re part of the package.
I glance around like I’m expecting to see Kash standing next to me. I look back at the dragon. “Did you just talk?”
Sort of. We can communicate telepathically.
“Telepathically? Like you're in my head?” The idea of him wandering around my mind scares the crap out of me, and there’s no firewalls I can put up to make sure he can only access what I want him to.
I’m not in your head. I can project my thoughts.
“Oh.” That’s a relief.
I would never invade your mind like that unless you wanted me there. I promise. Usually, only mates share a true connection where there are no secrets.
“Mates. Is that like husband and wife for you guys?” I ask.
It’s more than that. Dragons believe in fated mates. Which means we believe that there is a soul mate out there for us. Our heartstones help us find them.
“Soul mates, huh?”
I move around the beast just sitting on the roof while I study the large tail, the wings that flutter agitatedly like they’re ready to take off at any moment, and the giant talons scraping along the roof’s surface.
“Do you breathe fire?”
I do. But I won’t show you that while we’re on my friend’s hotel.
“That’s fair. Do you let anyone ride you?”
His laughter is heavy and robust in my head. It makes me smile. “Don’t be a perv.”
