She sits up a little straighter. “Uh, yeah. Even those living under a rock know about that. That rocked the world more than learning that there were aliens.”
“The world has seen a dragon. They haven’t seen an alien,” I reply with a bit of annoyance in my voice.
Her lips curve into a smile. “You’re a little weird, you know that?”
“I do. I really do. You know how you helped me get those videos of dragons and werewolves down previously?”
She frowns. “Yeah, I remember that.” She points to her head. “I remember everything. Eidetic memory.”
“Those videos were also authentic dragon and wolf shifter videos. We were trying to keep it out of the public. They were real and eventually someone was going to try and debunk them and we couldn’t have that. Then Levi…shifted on national television and the world blew up.”
I don’t rush through any of this. I want her to put the pieces together as much as I want to tell her everything. I know that she needs to absorb the information and process it before she gets the next chunk.
“Levi, your brother, is a dragon shifter?”
“Yes, my brother is a dragon shifter.”
She sits forward on the bed. “Was he bitten? Born that way? How do you become a dragon shifter?”
“Until recently, we thought the only way to become a dragon shifter was to be born one. But three of my brothers have found their mates. When they claimed them, they shifted into a dragon as well.”
“Are all your siblings dragons?”
“Yes.”
She scoots a little more forward so her ass is barely perched on the edge of the bed. “Kashton Wystan, are you a dragon shifter?”
I blow out a breath and drop my gaze to the surprisingly nice carpet in the hotel room. “Yes.”
She doesn’t move. Her breath stalls, and she gets eerily quiet. I finally drag my gaze back up to hers.
“You’re a dragon.”
“Yes.”
She lurches forward and presses her hands to my chest. “I want to see.”
I wrap my hands around her wrists, holding her there. I don’t know what I was expecting, but I do think a part of me was expecting absolute rejection.
“Hang on, my goddess. There’s a lot more we need to get through.”
Her bottom lip protrudes out and her dark eyes get puppy like. “Kashton, please. You’re a freaking dragon shifter. I want to see you as a dragon.”
I let out another long breath and rub my hand over my face. “We can’t do it in here. I’ll destroy this very nice hotel and probably lose a few friends in the process.”
“Hang on, The Dragon’s Lair Hotel and Casino. Is this place owned by a dragon?”
“Yes. There are a lot of dragon shifters in this building right now. Some of them are former humans.”
“That’s so crazy. You mentioned that was a new revelation?”
“Yeah. We were forbidden to ever mate with humans. Our really good friend Gavin gave up his throne to run off with his human mate. We just found out around the same time Ash found his mate, that they shift into dragons after the claiming. A big shock to us all.”
“Throne?” Her voice is a mixture of shock and amazement, and I can’t tell which one has the larger pull on her right now.
“There are eight clans of dragons. Each clan has a king and/or queen. Ash is currently the king of our clan.”
“Hang on, are you a prince?”
