He grinned as he lunged forward, scooping me up off my feet and into his arms. “You will always come first, my mate.”
I laughed as he carried me down the stairs, moving through the hallway as if we owned the building, until we stopped at our room.
“What’s so funny?”
I shook my head, not really knowing how to explain to my dragon why me coming first was so funny, or so accurate, in more ways than one. “Just get me inside.” Tentatively, still testing out the boundaries of this mental link, I tried to project,And then get inside me.
The low growl that escaped his lips made it clear he heard me. Levi quickly fought the electronic keycard lock, moving too fast the first three times before it turned green, and he pushed through the portal like it was made of paper.
I almost worried he’d broken the door, but it swung shut again.
Levi didn’t stop until we were in the bathroom. Even then, he hardly stopped touching me long enough to get the water turned on.
The clothes we both wore ended up in tatters, like he couldn’t be patient enough to deal with buttons or zippers.
As he pressed me into the tile wall and filled me with one deep thrust, I was glad for all his impatience.
I needed him, just as badly as he needed me.
* * *
I came twicebefore he’d had enough of my naked body to actually take the time to clean us both up. My legs felt like jelly, and my stomach was rumbling loudly, but Levi didn’t seem like he was in any rush to stop touching me, like he intended to meticulously wash every inch of my body.
He was a lot quicker, a lot more brusque about the passes of the washcloth on his own skin, and he seemed more concerned with making sure I never got too cold, than he was with actually getting clean.
It was a few hours before dawn when we stepped out of the shower.
“I should go check on Nina, make sure she’s okay, before we get some sleep.” As if it were intent on betraying me, a yawn snuck out and garbled my words.
Levi wrapped me in a robe and then slipped one on his own body. “I’ll come with you. It’s not safe for either of us to be alone right now. Especially if Tabitha still has Nina under her spell.”
“How do we break that? How do I make sure my best friend isn’t going to end up broken, living with a witch in her head?” I snuggled into him as he steered me toward the suite door. “I don’t want her to suffer from as much supernatural related trauma as I have.”
“As soon as we can, I’ll get Syrena up here to do a full gamut of tests on her. She’ll know what to do if she needs to be cured of a witch’s influence.” He gave my shoulder a little squeeze and kissed the top of my head. “We’ll have her test the heartstone too.”
I looked down at the pendant, the only thing that had stayed on either of us throughout the shower, throughout the sex, and shrugged my shoulders lightly. “Only if it doesn’t overtax her. I have a feeling that even with just you Wystan siblings, she’s got her hands more than full with magical assistance requests.” I pulled it out and studied it as I ran my fingers over the surface. “I don’t need a rock to tell me what I already know, Levi.”
He paused, looking askance at me. “Which is?”
“I’m not going to stand here and repeat what you already know. What we both know.”
He grinned. “What if I just like hearing it? What if my dragon craves hearing that we’re yours? That you’re ours?”
I stuck out my tongue at him playfully, bumping his hip with mine. You’re mine. I’m yours.
The smile on his face just grew wider.
I couldn’t help but wonder, though, if I’d ever feel that connected to my dragon shape. If I’d ever be able to feel her in situations that weren’t so emotionally charged.
I hoped so.
Levi let us into Nina’s room, pushing the door open slowly, as if he were worried she would lunge out at us.
He hadn’t needed to be concerned though. She was still sleeping, curled around a pillow, like she’d hardly moved since I left her.
“Can we stay here, just for a little while?” I didn’t exactly feel like I needed permission, but I knew that after the day we’d both had, neither of us needed to be alone, and if he didn’t want to stay, I wouldn’t either.
“As long as you want, my mate.” He kissed my cheek and settled in one of the armchairs in the room. It wasn’t very big and couldn’t have been particularly comfortable for a man his height, but he didn’t even begin to complain, almost like he was just content to watch over Nina and me. Or, more likely, just me.
