Her brow furrowed. “I’m not wearing any jewel…ry.” She dropped her gaze to her own cleavage. “No fucking way.”
Henrik stared at her.
“How can you be sure?”
I sense it on you.
She shook her head. “This isn’t happening.” The damn nipple rings. She thought she found some magical piece of jewelry.
Nope. It was Henrik’s fucking heartstone.
They were mates. Picked by destiny. Fated to be together.
That pissed her right the fuck off at that particular moment.
“Why doesn’t Henrik know?”
He lets doubt control him.
“Fucking zen dragon. Great.” Quinn grabbed her clothes and pulled them back on feeling way too vulnerable and naked. “When do I get Henrik back?”
Not right now.
“Fair enough.” Quinn glanced around the barren cabin. “What is this place?”
This is somewhere I feel safe. I come here when I need to clear my head.
She imagined the dragon was talking for both the dragon and Henrik. It was weird that they were sort of split personalities sometimes. Quinn knew a little about the craze. The dragon became all beast and destructive.
Was that what Rebecca had seen? She didn’t understand how people could murder so easily. Vampire and dragon slayers. She knew that there was a group of people who tried to wipe out all the faeries once. Hunters tried to kill the shifters. She supposed humans were always killing humans too. It just seemed so odd to hate someone because of what they were.
She wanted Rebecca’s story.
More than that, she wanted Rebecca to leave. She posed a true threat to her dragon. What were they going to do with her lurking around? And what did she try to shoot Henrik with?
She moved around the cabin looking at the very few personal items around. There was a bathroom (thank goodness—with running water), a bedroom with a bed that nearly took up all the space. The closet had a few flannel shirts and jeans inside.
No pictures. A few dishes in the tiny kitchenette area. No curtains on any of the windows, which she really didn’t like. She could never get her imagination to play nice. She always wondered if there was someone out in the dark looking in. They would be able to see her just fine with the firelight flickering around the room.
More than anything, she was avoiding the naked dragon in the room. She didn’t know what to do with herself. She wasn’t tired. She was wound up from everything that had happened. It wasn’t every day she found out her brother was a vampire, there was a dragon slayer in town, or that she was mated to a dragon that kidnapped her to keep her safe.
While sweet, it was also frustrating.
Also, he was too naked. He was just standing there watching her move around the cabin. Didn’t he have dragon things to do now that they didn’t have to cuddle to save her life?
“Why are you just watching me? Can’t you read a book or something?” she barked.
Henrik didn’t respond.
“Can you at least put on some clothes?”
He harumphed but stomped into the bedroom and returned in a pair of jeans and nothing else.
Thank goodness. She’d done everything she could to not look at his giant cock that was semi-erect while he was standing there. How the hell did he tame that thing into his pants every day?
With the weight of the day pressing down on her, she let out a yawn.
Let me take you to bed, mate.
