“I can make you some breakfast,” she offered, not ready to see him leave just yet.

“I’d like that.” He rolled out of bed, grabbing his clothes, and heading for her adjoining bathroom.

Quinn’s clit throbbed and her pussy felt extremely empty. Holy crap, she’d never felt so aroused in her life. She wanted him to come back to bed and finish what he started. She’d just have to use her vibrator to take the edge off once he left.

She climbed out of bed and grabbed her robe. She had the week off. She’d taken it preemptively in case looking for James ended up leading places, she didn’t want to screw over her team by not having coverage.

When she came out of the bathroom in a pair of yoga pants and a loose-fitting shirt that hung off her shoulder, she found Henrik in her kitchen whipping up a full breakfast complete with orange juice and coffee.

“You cook?”

“I do. My mother insisted all of us learned how to cook. My little sister is the only one you don’t want anywhere near the kitchen. She burns things.”

“Noted. How many siblings do you have?”

“Six. Five brothers and one sister.”

“Wow. That’s a lot of siblings. Just me and my brother seemed to be too much for our parents. They could only deal with having one. Or maybe I was just such a disappointment…”

Henrik shook his head. “If anyone was the disappointment, it was your parents. You save animals. You’re a kind soul.” Henrik put two plates of food on the little table she had in her dining room. She grabbed silverware and the coffees and brought them to the table. They sat down next to each other. Henrik dragged her closer to him and draped his arm behind her shoulders.

“I’m glad you’re like you,” he said. “I have to admit, I like luxury. I’m accustomed to it. It’s a strong cultural thing too. As royalty, I’m definitely not wanting for anything. I’m in Chicago until I can figure out some stuff, and I admit to having a mansion near the lake. But if I didn’t have anything but you, I would consider it the biggest treasure of all.”

She chuckled. “That’s a good line, mister.”

“Not a line. I’m serious.”

She met his earnest green eyes. “I can see that. And that’s sweet.”

She wondered if they really had that much in common. Would they have anything more than off-the-charts chemistry? She wanted to find out.

Too Human

Henrik didn’t want to leave Quinn, but he needed to check some stuff out and check in with Syrena. There was too much at stake for him to get distracted. If something happened to Letty through this whole thing, he’d never forgive himself.

Plus, if he stayed around Quinn his blue balls were going to become unbearable. He didn’t want to jump into anything with her. Their connection was strong, and he wanted her to be his mate, but he was scared to claim her and then to find out his true mate was someone else.

Then what? He didn’t want to ruin her life. What if he didn’t live through this whole ordeal? There was very little Henrik wasn’t willing to do to see this all come to an end…in their favor, of course.

He called Syrena on his way home.

“How’d it go?” she asked.

“We’re in, I think. Stefano seemed impressed with how we handled things. I don’t know how we’re going to keep up this charade though.”

“I’ve got some plans working on that. Just let me know when you know what the next job is. I talked to Letty this morning. She’s doing all right. They’ve got her in a giant shipping container. She’s unsure if it’s a truck or ship container, but that’s for you to find out when you go looking for her. When do you intend to put that plan into action?”

“I don’t know. I need to talk to Cillian and Q. I’m worried about Q being all in. If he’s human, he’s got a steep learning curve and he’s going to be a lot more vulnerable than the rest of us.”

“I would say that Q seems focused and that’s all you need. Don’t worry about the details.”

“I just don’t want to be worried about keeping him alive in the middle of a fight.”

“I can cast a protection spell on Q too. I just need some time to get some things together on my end over here first. I can’t just conjure a portal every time you need help.”

“Syrena, you’re amazing and I appreciate any help you can provide me.”
