“I appreciate the concern, sweetie, but I wouldn’t have volunteered if it wasn’t necessary. We need to find James and figure out what Stefano and Grey are up to so we can stop it. I’ve been around dragons my whole life. Danger is always part of the gig, but they’ve protected me when they didn’t have to.”

Quinn sighed. “So, we’re just going to tie you up and throw you in the trunk and you’re good with that.”

Letty nodded. “I mean, I’d really appreciate it if you save me and send me home in the same condition you found me in, but I understand there are risks involved. It’s gonna be good, Q. I promise.”

She huffed and crossed her arms over her chest. “Shouldn’t I be reassuring you?”

Letty and Syrena chuckled. Henrik just studied Quinn with a curious glint in his eye.

Quinn was relieved that Henrik didn’t seem to be involved in evil. He was like James; he was trying to fight the bad guys. She couldn’t help but feel way over her head. Not to mention, she didn’t like lying to Henrik, but she wasn’t ready to tell him the truth. She was out of her league and needed to understand everything better before she handed over more information.

“All right, time’s up. We gotta get back or we’re going to lose out,” Henrik said. “All of this hocus pocus will be for nothing.”

Quinn pulled out the keys and hit the key fob. The trunk unlocked and opened. Henrik moved to the car and popped the door the rest of the way up.

“Milady, I hope you’ll find the conditions cramped and probably a bit chilly. No entertainment or snacks, but I do promise you’ll find the next twenty-four hours intense and thrilling and hopefully not too scary.” Henrik tapped the side of the car. “If I’d known I was going to be kidnapping someone tonight, I would’ve rented a SUV.”

Letty patted him on the chest. “Thanks, big guy.”

Quinn’s eyes narrowed on her touching him. It was a friendly gesture, but she knew nothing about Henrik. She didn’t know if he had a relationship with this woman. Maybe they were friends with benefits.

She wanted to roll her eyes at herself. She was standing in there in a male vampire glamour, kidnapping a girl for fake, while they for real went back to a vampire overlord, and she was worried about the guy who’d she seen twice and talked to a little through text.

Yet, it all felt all so reasonable. She wanted to know more about him. She wanted to know if the connection between them was real. Was it just lust? Lust was involved without question, but what she felt for him was something more than just heat. She cared about him.

She’d been devastated when she saw him in the club. She hated to think she’d been so wrong about a guy who’d saved a kitten.

Now, she had no idea what to think. Everything had flipped a one-eighty. They were going to somehow magically save this girl after kidnapping her.

Syrena approached her. “You better be careful, Q. I can see beyond the glamour. I know the truth.” She leaned in and whispered against Quinn’s ear. “There’s tourmaline on you. That’s important, you should know.”

“What?”

Syrena glanced back Henrik and then smirked. “You’ll learn soon enough.”

“Let’s get going, Q. I’m going to drive us back.”

She wanted to argue with him, but the truth was she needed to think. She tossed him the keys and moved around to the other side of the car.

“It’s been fun, kids.” Syrena waved and then closed her eyes and another burst of light and she was gone.

Quinn blinked a few times and then shook herself out of the trance. Getting into the car, she pulled out her phone and quickly checked for messages. Nothing.

This whole night was frustrating, terrifying, and overwhelming. She had no idea what the right answer was, but currently, she had a whole bunch of problems. Now she had to figure out the answers and fucking solutions.

She was going to drink a bottle of wine and cry when all this was over.

“How are you doing over there?” Henrik asked once they were on the road again.

Quinn glanced over at him. Every time she really took him in, she couldn’t believe how her body twisted just looking at him.

At the moment, he thought she was a male human in a vampire disguise. They were kidnapping a willing woman and planning on saving her later.

Hopefully, they’d find James in the process too.

James. She needed to focus on her friend and not the giant, sexy man who was apparently a dragon shifter. No. She wasn’t going to think about how sexy he was, because it was just going to lead to her wanting him.

And what about what Syrena had said to her? She had tourmaline on her? What the hell did that mean? Tourmaline? It was a rock, right? She was only wearing one sort of jewelry other than the band that carried the glamour magic at the moment. And there were purple stones dripping off the ends of her nipple rings. Were they the tourmaline the witch mentioned?
