He let out a sigh of relief hearing her voice. “It’s okay,” he said keeping his voice down. “Relax. Your body will work just like your human form, you just need to adjust to it.”
This is really weird. You should’ve warned me.
“Sorry, sweetheart, I was a little more preoccupied with claiming you than the consequences. I should’ve taken you to the cabin.”
She eased her tail around and curled it around her feet and then she sat down. Her wings folded in, resting properly against her back.
“You’re beautiful. Your coloring is a little different. Finely is all black.”
She lowered her head.Don’t you think I should shift back? Anyone could see me.
“Can you shift back?”
I don’t know how.
“It’s not something you need to be taught. Just…think about your human body. Want to be back in your human body.”
Nothing is happening.
“Think about my hands all over that curvy body of yours, teasing you, caressing you.”
He smirked at the satisfied purr in his head as she shifted back into her human form.
“You all right?”
She looked down at herself. “That was definitely something I wasn’t quite ready for.”
He lifted her back into his arms and took her back inside. “There will be plenty of time to get you ready for it. This definitely means there is no turning back. You’re all mine.”
“Possessive barbarian.”
He kissed her. “You can hug James all you want now, because not only does he have to share you with this dragon, you’re my dragon.”
She rested her head on his chest as he carried them back to his bed.
They curled together in bed.
“I love you, Henrik. I’m glad you came back to me.”
Henrik sighed. “Whatever we face, we face together from now on.”
“Together from now on,” she confirmed.
Epilogue
Quinn gathered the mewling kitten in her arms and headed back up toward the front of the clinic. Henrik waited by the counter with a carrier.
The calico seemed to recognize him immediately and started trying to get to him. He caught the kitten right before she fell to the floor. She meowed happily as he brought her to his broad chest.
“Did you miss me, baby girl?” he cooed to the tiny creature.
“Listen here, little lady. You can snuggle with him and get pets from him, but he’s mine,” Quinn said to the kitten.
“Come on, sweetheart. Let’s take our new friend home.” He set her in the carrier and closed it up. He wrapped his free arm around Quinn’s shoulder. “She’s going to need a name.”
“You were supposed to be thinking up a name for her. You’re her hero,” Quinn said. “Coincidentally, you’re my hero too.”
They headed back to the house, where they’d moved all of Quinn’s stuff. They’d been living together for a couple of days. She took an extended vacation to make sure that the shenanigans were done with for the time being, and to make sure she had control of her shifting.
