Quinn: Don’t go if it’s not safe.
James: I have to, or I’ll blow my cover.
Quinn: Be safe.
James: Always.
James: Eternal Fire Stone. Dragon Breath.
Quinn: What the hell does that mean?
Quinn: James? Come on, what’s going on?
Quinn: I know you always check in when you can, but you scared me last night. Are you okay?
Quinn: James, it’s been two days, I need to hear from you.
Quinn: Answer me.
Quinn: Where are you?
Quinn: I’m going to come looking for you.
Quinn: I’m serious.
She knew that James was in trouble. What she didn’t know was how to help. She knew all sorts of things about his world, James had been perfectly frank with her when she asked questions, except for when it came to what he was actually doing. Quinn knew what the Crimson Club held inside.
It was a vampire hangout. The only way she was going to get in there was if she was a man and a vampire or the entertainment. She knew that security was tight. It would be difficult to get in no matter what.
She went into her bedroom and glanced around her space. She grabbed warm clothes and layered up. If she was going to go into this place, she needed to stake it out. There was no way she could go in there completely blind.
What did you need for a stake out?
She raked her hands through her hair. What the hell was she thinking? How was she going to pull this off? Vampires didn’t fuck around. They were scary. James had showed her his fangs, his brutal strength, and his ability to compel. Not to mention, his super speed. He was completely terrifying if he wanted to be. Which meant the vampires without a conscience would be far scarier. And they would kill her without a thought.
She knelt next to the bed and pulled out the box James had given her just before he’d gone missing. She popped it open and looked through all the survival items James had given her just in case. She never really understood why he gave her this stuff, but it was going to come in useful now. Something in there had to give her an advantage against a club full of vampires.

As it turned out, there was a lot you could learn by scoping a place out for a few days. She’d began putting a plan together to infiltrate and look for James, but between her work schedule and her stake out schedule, Quinn was exhausted. She knew she would have to get some decent rest before she executed the next leg of her plan and some time off from work.
Quinn lifted the mewling calico out of the kennel. “How are you doing today, little one?”
As much as she hated to admit it, she’d gotten attached to the kitten over the last few days. She tried to convince herself it wasn’t because of the giant, hot man who brought her in. The one who hadn’t said much to her since she’d stupidly reached out with her personal phone number. It had been a weak moment after an overnight shift.
She hadn’t reached out again, not wanting to look pathetic, especially if he wasn’t interested in more than the patient.
There was so much going on with her at the moment, it was probably best their texting had waned quickly. She would’ve blown him off right with everything going on with James anyway, but she couldn’t help but fantasize about the hulking hottie who cared enough about a kitten to help her in the middle of the snowstorm. Of course, he was too good to be true.
“Dr. Thompson, you have a guest. I put him in exam room three, though, he doesn’t have an animal with him.”
Her brow furrowed. “A guest?”
The vet tech smirked. “You should probably take the kitten with you.”
Oh great.
Quinn headed into the exam room, not particularly surprised to see Henrik, but still kind of shocked he’d shown back up.
