Quinn eyed him for a moment, taking in his entire appearance. “May I ask you a really forward question that will be extremely odd if you’re not?”

“Intrigue. I’ll permit a question if you let me buy you a drink.”

She rolled her eyes. She dragged her teeth over red painted bottom lip. “Okay. You have a deal.”

“Excellent.” He bypassed the line and went straight to the bar.

She quickly rubbed at her teeth hoping she didn’t just smear them with her red lipstick.

He returned with her drink in hand.

She accepted the drink but had no intention of drinking it. She followed him to a standing table, and they set their drinks down to talk.

“I don’t have to ask my question anymore,” she said.

“Oh no? Why’s that?”

“You confirmed it for me by reading my mind and getting my drink.”

The man smirked and took a drink of his two-finger scotch in a high ball glass with two cubes. “I did?”

“My best friend used to try to freak me out doing that trick. I know it well.”

“Is he the one you’re wearing the nipple rings for?” the man asked.

“You know, I don’t even know your name and you’re asking about my nipple rings.”

“You’re the one who brought them up, love.”

“True. I guess I didn’t think they’d stay a conversation topic. In fact, I expected someone as refined as you to walk away and find a more suitable date for the evening.”

“You’re perfectly suitable. Nipple rings add intrigue, not disgust.”

Her lips curved politely. “I really am taken.”

He held up his hand. “I’m much more interested in talking to you than fucking you or…”

“Or feeding off me?”

He lifted his drink to his lips. “You are a brazen thing, aren’t you? What are you doing here if you’re not here to get nibbled on, especially in an outfit like that?”

She realized in this moment it was a bad idea to be poking around the club. She’d been so frustrated with Henrik and the situation. She was tired of waiting. Every moment James since went missing was a moment he was closer to death. Of that she was sure.

“I’m just here to dance. I appreciate the drink but there’s no way I’m going to drink something here. It was nice to meet you.” She turned away from him and quickly scampered into the crowd hoping to get lost.

The only problem with trying to lose a vampire…they had keen senses, fast moves, and determination. A hand clamped onto her elbow and shifted her direction.

“Excuse me,” she growled, trying to yank away from him in vain.

“You’re Quinn. Drake’s sister. And Henrik’s little mate, are you not?” The voice was dark and cold in her ear.

She jerked, trying to get away, but his grip was solid on her. “What does it matter to you?”

“You should properly introduce yourself next time, Ms. Thompson. My name is Grey.”

Her entire body stiffened.

His voice hissed in her ear. “I had a feeling Henrik told you all about me. I’m so glad you are here. I was trying to figure out how I was going to get my hands on you. They say good things don’t come to those who wait. I find that’s not true at all. I’m so glad you decided to come hear my proposal.”
