“Tell me how we’re going to know they’re your heartstone.”
“First of all, my heartstone was a ring with purple and green tourmaline. Second of all, if you’re my mate and either one of us is wearing the heartstone, it will glow.”
She scoffed, “That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard.”
He shrugged. “I didn’t create the damn thing. How else do you think the heartstone helps us find our mates?”
“I don’t know. Glowing though?”
He chuckled. “You’re stalling.”
“I’m not flashing you to see if my nipples are going to light up if you touch me.”
He burst out laughing. “You’re right. This is ridiculous. I should see about getting us home.”
She sat up. “That’s it?”
“Do you want me to keep asking you to show me your tits, sweetheart? I’m prepared to get on my knees and eat that delicious cunt of yours until you say yes.”
Her cheeks warmed. “You’re right, we should get back. There’s too much going on for any of this to matter right now.”
She scooted to the edge of the bed and Henrik moved into her, parting her legs so he was standing between them.
His expression lost all humor. “Are you truly all right?” His tone was reverent and serious.
“Yes, I’m okay. It got pretty cold on the trip here, but your dragon and I snuggled by the fire until I warmed up. No frostbite or anything. I would like to avoid the Air Dragon ride back to Chicago though, if you don’t mind.”
“Don’t like to fly?”
“Not in the middle of winter. I know you don’t get cold, but it had to be negative twenty degrees. I was so cold.”
He reached for her hands and pulled her off the bed and onto her feet and then into his arms. He wrapped his arms around her. “I’m truly sorry. I’ve never had that happen before.”
“Are you getting the craze or whatever?”
Henrik’s brow crinkled in concern. “By the gods I hope not, but I don’t know. I know it can happen to unmated dragons.”
“What causes it?”
“There are a lot of theories on that matter. Don’t worry about it right now. We’re both safe and I don’t anticipate it happening again right now.”
She nodded woodenly. She was scared what all of it meant. What would happen if she lost him to the craze?

Henrik couldn’t stop thinking about Quinn’s tits. It had little to do with her breasts so much as he wanted to know if she had his heartstone. Had his dragon really known all this time? Why couldn’t he sense it on her? Was he so clouded that he was hindering his own instincts?
He had a working truck in the standalone garage. They cleared out of the cabin once he was sure the fire was out and headed into the small town that was a good thirty miles away. He loved northern Minnesota. It was quiet and not many people around. He preferred the cold.
She was quiet, watching the scenery as they drove. She did that when she had a lot on her mind, he noticed.
Henrik needed to call his brother and Warren and let them know that a dragon hunter was on their tail. The operation was getting mucked up.
“Do you think Drake is really in control of what he’s doing?” Quinn asked quietly.
He glanced over at her. “I have no idea. Vampires have strong powers of compulsion. I know the older ones like Grey can even compel a lesser vampire. It’s possible he’s nothing but a puppet.”
