“You have to take us back home.”

No.

“Henrik…”

He snarled, his lip curling over his teeth. She noticed his teeth were still sharp. He was partially shifted.

You’re not safe. You’re not being safe.

“That’s not…you don’t get to control me.”

Mine. His chest vibrated with his growl.Rest, mate.

Quinn wondered if she would be putting herself in danger if she continued to argue with him. She didn’t think he’d hurt her. There was something about his obstinance and simplicity. The dragon operated more on instincts than rationality.

While it was wholly impractical, she liked that he’d brought her somewhere he considered safe and wanted to be wrapped around her.

This wasn’t the best way to go about it though. There was so much they had to do, and people were counting on them. They couldn’t just hang out in a cabin in the middle of wherever and wait for it to all be over. Henrik would never forgive himself either.

He and his dragon were clearly at odds with their priorities.

She decided it was best to give in for the moment. She didn’t really want to take another terrifying ride in the freezing cold. She could wait for sunlight and hopefully a more human Henrik in control.

Her thoughts strayed to Drake. He was a vampire. His selfish behavior had taken him to a place of no return. She wondered if he would live to regret it or die before he even had a chance. She didn’t trust that Stefano wasn’t doing anything other than using him as a means to an end.

Henrik shifted against her, his face buried against her neck. She could feel him sniffing her.

“What are you doing?”

You smell angry.

“I am angry. I’m frustrated with my brother.”

Your brother is a vampire.

“So it would seem.”

You can’t fix him. Especially right now. You need to rest, mate.

“You’re awfully demanding, Dragon,” she snapped. She pushed out of his arms. Now that she’d warmed up and could think straight again, she was ready to stop being the damsel in distress that needed a dragon to carry her away from a situation. “You kidnapped me.”

I protected you.

“What is this? Telepathy? Can you not talk with your mouth?”

He snarled.

“All right, fine. Then why don’t you tell me what’s going on in that dragon brain.”

He tilted his head like he didn’t understand her question.

“Why do you keep calling me your mate?” She put her hands on her hips. “You don’t have your heartstone.”

You have it.

She opened her mouth to say something sassy and then stopped. “I what?”

You have the heartstone. Even now I can sense it on you.
