It was a couple of hours before a guy showed up at the club. Quinn and Henrik’s silence was less comfortable than it had been.

When a man stopped in front of Crimson, Quinn leaned forward.

“Oh my God.”

“What?”

“That’s Drake. That’s my brother.”

Henrik’s brow furrowed in confusion. “Why is your brother here?”

“I’m such an idiot,” Quinn said.

“What? What am I missing?”

“If they grabbed James for being a double agent, which let’s face it, that’s the only reason why they would, then they had to know about me. I bet they’re keeping Drake around as a way to keep James in line.”

Henrik gaped at her with big, worried eyes.

“Don’t. You don’t need to freak out on me. I’m fine.”

“Is Drake working for them willingly or is he under the influence of Dragon Fire or…”

“Stefano doesn’t need Dragon Fire to control one person. It’s probably thrall.”

“Thrall. James used that on me once to show me. It’s scary to not be in control of all yourself at all.” She glanced over at him. He did not look calm. “We have to see if he knows anything.”

“No.”

“Yes. He’s my brother. Anything after that doesn’t matter. I’m not leaving him to the wolves…er…vampires.”

“Fine.”

“Fine. We’ll follow him home.”

“You shouldn’t come with me.”

Henrik shot her an angry glare. “You’re not doing it alone.”

Quinn shook her head. “He’s not going to hurt me. He may be an asshole, but he’d never hurt me.”

“If he’s under the influence of Dragon’s Fire or thrall…it won’t matter if he wants to hurt you or not, whoever is controlling him could hurt you. You’re not going alone. That’s all there is to it.”

Quinn’s eyes narrowed. “You don’t get to dictate everything.”

“Do I get a say?”

“No,” she barked defiantly. “You’ll blow your cover.”

Henrik jerked his head away to stare out the side window.

“Don’t try and control me, Henrik.”

“I’m trying to protect you.”

Quinn put her hand on his leg trying to draw his attention back to her. Slowly, he brought his gaze back to hers. “I know. I appreciate it. But he’s my brother. I’m going to protect him. You can protect us both.”

Henrik’s eyes lit up with fierceness. “That, I can do.”
