Warren’s gaze flickered over his shoulder. “What have you got back there? You’re being very protective.”
Henrik crossed his arms over his chest. “The women are back there. I’m just protecting them.”
“Protecting one of them in particular, you mean?” Warren’s lips twitched. “Your mate back there?”
“Just don’t worry about it.”
Enzo chuckled. “My guess is the female hasn’t been claimed yet. He doesn’t want her around a bunch of clearly more attractive and strapping men until he’s claimed her.”
“Clever, Fae,” Henrik muttered. “I don’t know if she’s my mate. No heartstone for confirmation. But my dragon really doesn’t want any of you near her.”
Warren jogged his chin toward Henrik. “But you let the unmated vampire around her?”
“Cillian thought that she was a guy this entire time, just like I did,” Henrik replied.
“Whoa, wait a second…you thought she was a guy?” Sebastian asked.
Henrik sighed. “She was wearing a vampire male glamour.”
Enzo snickered. “Is that what gets your motor running?”
“Syrena, why did you bring a bunch of guys here to rattle my cage?” Henrik asked the witch who had been searching her phone for something since she walked in.
“Oh, right. Well since your evening plans were cancelled by Stefano, they’ll have to wait. But I created five glamours to make them look like human females.”
Warren cocked an eyebrow. “Excuse me?”
Syrena rolled her eyes. “Would you prefer if I asked your mates to volunteer? Oh, right, you haven’t gotten any.”
Nash growled.
Enzo and Arthur exchanged a glance. “We came to your realm to find mates, not to become females.”
Syrena sighed. “Is your masculinity going to be put to the test because you wear a glamour to protect your identity so you can rescue a bunch of female prisoners who are being trafficked by a psycho vampire?”
Enzo sighed. “When you put it like that, we sound weak.”
“Maybe it doesn’t justsoundweak?” Syrena snapped.
Warren held up his hands in surrender. “Forgive us, we’re being idiots. Of course, we’ll wear the glamours.”
Syrena gave a stiff nod. “Good. Until then you can help me tend to the women we have rescued and deal with any upcoming surprises.”
“We need to find James.” Quinn’s voice came as a demand from the other room.
Warren clapped Henrik on the back. “Come on, introduce us. We’ll all behave as if she’s already off limits.”
“Because she is,” Henrik snarled along with the backing of his dragon. He turned and went to sit by her side while the others filtered in behind him. Letty and another woman were the only two left in the room aside from Quinn who was still resting on the couch. She and Letty were no longer connected.
“You feeling any better?”
Quinn nodded. “The cookies and juice are helping.”
Henrik glanced up at Letty. “You doing all right as well?”
Letty nodded. “I’m fine. It wasn’t so long ago I was giving blood and plasma to help supplement my income. Better to a woman who needs it then a vampire sipping from the stock,” she grumbled.
“They were feeding off you?” Cillian snapped.
