Enzo’s chuckles carried through the phone. “That’s an accurate description.”
“That’s Tabitha.”
“Then their witch is on site too.”
“It’s time. They’re moving forward. They have to be.”
“We’ll keep an eye out here. Let us know when you’re moving in.”
Henrik ended the call. “I think we’ve got to move sooner than later.”
Syrena nodded. “I agree.”
There was a loud thud from outside. Henrik turned just in time to see Quinn stumble through the doorway, her arm twisted back as Levi held her.
“Levi, what the fuck?”
“You think she’s just free and clear now?” Levi asked incredulously, his lip curling in disgust.
“You don’t have to hurt her.”
Levi let her go with a dramatic release and roll of his eyes.
Henrik grabbed Quinn and pulled her into his arms. “Are you all right?”
“I don’t know. I can’t believe I got out of there.”
“Do you have the stone?” Syrena asked.
Quinn shook her head, her big brown eyes wide. “No, I screwed up. He used his vampire magic to hypnotize me. I didn’t even know what I was doing until I woke up in Drake’s car. He drove me to the club, and I handed over the stone. I’m so sorry.” Tears streamed down her cheeks. “Henrik, will you please just take me somewhere and hold me for a few minutes?”
The urge to protect and comfort her surged through him, even as her vulnerability struck him as odd. She’d never been so fragile. Even when she cried in his arms, she didn’t seem this weak. Maybe everything was compounding in on her. Maybe she couldn’t take it anymore.
He escorted her away from the prying eyes and took her into a room that was empty at the moment. He sat her down on the small twin bed and then sat next to her, the bed groaning under their combined weight. He wrapped his arms around her and held her.
Quinn shook his arms for a few minutes while he gently rocked her back and forth. She eventually settled in his arms.
“You want to tell me what happened?”
Quinn didn’t respond.
Just as he pulled back to try and coax her to look up at him, her hand shot up around his throat. She stood and lifted him clean off the ground. Henrik’s eyes widened and his hand immediately clamped down around her wrist.
“Quinn,” he choked.
She grinned maliciously and with one powerful thrust, she threw him through the window. He went flying backwards through the second-floor window and landed in the backyard with a hard thud. He opened his eyes as he watched Quinn pull herself into the frame of the window.
She stared down at him and leapt right at him. Henrik scrambled backward and to his feet just as she landed right in front of him.
“Quinn, what the hell are you doing?”
She lunged for him.
He barely escaped her. She wasn’t moving like a human. Her body was moving faster with more strength and agility he’d ever seen on a human.
Was she a vampire? She didn’t smell like one. She smelled like fire and brimstone.
He kept his feet moving watching her as she came at him. What was happening?
