It was as if a lightbulb lit up.
Court her. Of course, he was so daft sometimes. No wonder Henrik was constantly rolling his eyes at him.
His dragon twisted inside of him. The idea of courting their mate sounded much better than anything else he’d suggested.
For the first time, his agenda to find Tristian seemed less important after she risked her life, after she got hurt, after he could’ve lost her.
So now what?
Courting a mate hadn’t been part of his lessons.
How to rule over the clan? How to be diplomatic? How to protect himself and his clan? He could check all those boxes. How to court a human mate? He had no clue. She’d been out on a dinner date with the other human. Was that what she needed?
Did she even want to be courted?
The more the thought about all the possibilities and outcomes of him attempting to woo her for mating, the more he realized he was completely out of his league.
He needed help.
Finley stifled a yawn.
“You’re tired.”
Finley glanced up at him. “I do feel tired. But I don’t want to sleep. I want to talk more.”
Talking was a good start. He needed to learn more about her.
“I want to know more about you and your kind.”
He deflated a little. She was only tolerating him because she wanted information. How did he get her to focus on him and not the fact that he was a dragon?
Ash moved to the kitchen and found another bottle of wine. He opened it and allowed his pour to get a little heavy handed.
“Let’s move out to the veranda. It’s turning into a nice evening, and the ocean always looks incredible at dusk.” He escorted her outside.
The sun was setting, casting an almost dark green light across the sky, darkening the water. A storm was moving in.
She curled her legs up on the long lounge chair. He didn’t make himself look away as he took in her body. He couldn’t help but think about her curvy, long legs spread with his head between them, licking and lapping at her core.
He squeezed his eyes shut willing himself to not get any harder than his already semi-hard cock. The last thing he needed to do was embarrass himself.
“You okay over there?” she asked.
He forced his eyes open and he met her gaze. By the gods, she was beautiful. Her big eyes seemed to be absorbing everything she could.
“I’m all right.” He sat down on the longue chair next to her, though all he wanted to do was lift her onto his lap and have her relax into him as they watched the darkness fill the day.
“Tell me more about your home. Did you live in Rio? Is that why you’re in an ocean city now?”
“No. We lived several generations in Brazil in the heart of the forest. Not many humans could even get to where we were.”
She nodded thoughtfully. “You’re here because of what happened to your clan.”
“I am. Though, it would seem that fate had other ideas.”
Her gaze flickered to the bracelet. “Don’t you feel cheated?”
He lifted a brow. “Cheated?”
