Ash smirked. “It doesn’t matter. May I keep you company today?”

“Knock yourself out. Just don’t get in my way.”

She set down her coffee and headed into her bedroom. She went straight into her closet and pulled out another camera bag. When she turned around she let out a shriek.

“Damn, man! You don’t knock?”

He wasn’t looking at her though, he was staring at her stormy night over the beach picture. “What the hell is that?” he snapped.

“A picture I took. From your tone, it sounds like you’re not a fan.”

He scowled at her then turned back to the picture. “Where did you take this picture?”

“On my favorite beach. One night there was a storm.”

“I remember,” he murmured.

Finley stepped up next to him to look at the picture. “You remember what?”

“Nothing. Why is this on your wall?”

Finley didn’t like that he’d seen the picture. Olivia was the only other person who’d seen it. Her sister didn’t outright call her crazy, but definitely didn’t think there was a dragon.

“It’s a cool picture. I feel connected to it.”

Ash grumbled under his breath. “Looks like a dragon there.” He pointed to the picture.

Finley nodded woodenly. “It does.”

“Do you believe in dragons?”

She met his gaze. “Honestly?”

“I’d prefer it if you didn’t lie to me.”

“I’m not sure,” she replied. “Actually, for the last eight months, I’ve been researching this stuff. There’s been a lot of weird crap on the internet lately. There are better pictures and videos out there than this.”

“If there’s pictures and videos out there, then why don’t more people believe it?” Ash asked.

“I’m supposed to speak for all humanity?”

“For right now, yeah.”

“There have been pictures of Bigfoot, bat boy, Elvis sightings, aliens for decades. You say ‘Bigfoot’ in polite society, and you’re banished. Werewolves, dragons, faeries…that’s a whole different animal, literally.”

“Werewolves?”

“Man who shifts into a wolf.”

Ash chuckled. “Right. You’re researching this stuff. How?”

“Looking into the stuff that’s online, trying to track down the eyewitnesses.”

His eyes narrowed. “Why are you pursuing this?”

Finley headed out of her room. She could feel him behind her. “I don’t know. I’ve spent a lot of my life looking for the truth. I take pictures to show the truth. If these creatures exist, doesn’t the world deserve to know?”

“The world clearly isn’t that interested.”
