Olivia threw her head back and laughed. “Those barbaric creatures are only the beginning. All the shifters must go. Then the witches and the fae. Vampires will rule over their own cattle stock. It would already be that way if it hadn’t been for your boyfriend’s stupid father. I relished in watching him die slowly, next to his dying mate. Pure justice for locking me away for centuries. Like he could truly hold me. He should’ve killed me.”
“Vampires? You’re behind all this?”
“You should know better than anyone, Finley. I found you in that alley so scared and you just wanted to be freed. If you hadn’t been so young, I would’ve taken you as mine then. I can break you away from that cave dragon, bring you into the fold with me where you belong.”
“You think human are cattle, why would you want me?”
“I don’t want you to be my mate. I want you to be mine to drain. I know you want it too. Just like Olivia does.”
Finley’s lip curled in disgust. “You can’t be serious. What did you do to her?”
“Nothing she didn’t like and beg for.”
Her hands clenched into fists. “What makes you think you have a right to the world?”
Olivia’s head went back as she laughed a high-pitched cackle. “Whoever has the power is in control.”
“It’s the twenty-first century. You haven’t had the power. What makes you think you have it now?”
“Dragon Fire.”
Finley froze. “What does Dragon Fire have to do with all of this?”
“Tell you what. Why don’t you go see for yourself?”
Olivia’s eyes closed and then she nearly fell over. Finley jerked forward to grab her before she fell face first into the carpet.
“Finley? When did you get home?”
Oh, God.
She grabbed her sister’s hand. “We have to go.”
“Go where? Why am I here?” she glanced around. “I was supposed to be on a plane to Dubai.”
Finley squeezed her eyes shut. She hadn’t even known her sister had been taken. She’d been so stupid. How could she leave her unprotected? How could Ash leave them both here? He’d been so ready to leave her behind.
Whether he liked it or not they were a part of all this now.
Finley hauled Olivia to the beach and shoved her way through the doors to Sea Glass. She was surprised that she was able to find it so easily. Olivia, however, was a little shocked.
“Has this place always been here?”
“Yes, apparently.”
“Weird.”
They headed inside and Finley froze at the site of several dragons sitting in a circle deep in conversation. Their presence was immediately noticed and several of them turned to stare at them.
“Finley, what are you doing here?” Ash stood and moved around the chairs.
“It’s vampires,” she said.
His brow furrowed. “What’s vampires?”
“Vampires are trying to take over the world.”
She expected someone or all of them to burst out laughing, but it didn’t happen. Quiet murmurs filled the room as Ash stood right in front of her. He glanced over at Olivia and then back to her. “What happened?”
