Henrik sighed. “The conclave wants to meet again in two days.”
“That doesn’t sound like good news.”
“There was another attack in Beijing. They’re more interested in stopping the Dragon Fire deaths than getting Tristian.”
“Except he’s responsible for them.”
“They said they have more information on Tristian but wouldn’t say more than that. They said all would be revealed at the conclave.”
“Fuck.”
“Take it easy, brother. We don’t know what they have. Maybe it’s good news.”
“Doubtful. The conclave is ready to bury their head in the sand. I wish humans knew about us so we could do our jobs without ruining the status quo.”
Henrik chuckled.
“What?”
“Never in my life did I think I would ever hear you say such a thing.”
Ash could only nod in agreement even though his brother couldn’t see it.
“Go back to your date. And do yourself a favor, Ash. Claim your fucking mate before you regret not having enough time with her. For all we know the end of the world could be tomorrow and you’re dicking around like you’ve got all the time.”
He disconnected the line before Ash could respond.
After a beat, he turned on his heel and went back inside. He froze at the sight of Tristian sitting at his table across from Finley.
His dragon roared.

An Island for Dessert
Finley enjoyed the sight of Ash walking away even though she was bummed he had to take a phone call. They were having such a good time. It’d been a long time since she’d opened up to someone who wasn’t Olivia.
The wine had made her feel a little loosey-goosey and Ash kept tossing around hot threats of what he wanted to do to her which had her panties damp and her core throbbing for all sorts of attention. She almost wished she’d left her panties at home, just to tease him for real. Or to give him the access that her body completely wanted.
She finished off her second glass of the red blend he chosen for them. She liked it. Finley didn’t need to be taken to a place like that to be impressed. He didn’t showboat. He didn’t buy expensive wine, he bought the kind he liked and thought she might enjoy with her meal. He shared things off his plate just so she could try different things.
He was thoughtful and she loved how he talked about his siblings. He got what family meant. After everything he’d been through, it wasn’t surprising, but it was still nice.
She reached down to grab her clutch just when a large form plopped down in the seat in front of her.
The man was a beast like Ash. He had to be six foot four or more. His shoulders were wide, his chest vast, and his bulging muscles were impressive. He had blond hair and blue eyes, a sharp contrast to Ash’s darker features.
“Hello, lovely.”
“Uh, hi. Who are you?”
“My name is Tristian. I’m a friend of Ash’s.”
Her face paled and her gut twisted. She considered bolting right out of her chair. “You’re not a friend.”
He smiled, the pupils of his blue eyes almost too dilated. “No?”
“I don’t think you can attack someone’s home and clan and still be considered friends.”
