That thought dispels the dizziness and brings back the anger, making me pinch her harder.

She shoves at my chest, but I don’t release her. I hear someone call for her from outside the elevator, but I don’t look up. There’s no way I’m letting her go now, not when she just said that.

I’m so caught up in this new flurry of rage, that I miss her bend her knee and aim it for my balls.

I move at the last second, but not fast enough to miss the blow entirely.

It connects with the soft tissue of my upper thigh and makes my leg fold as I let out a pained groan. It’s enough of a distraction for Six to pull herself out of my grasp.

She storms out of the elevator and then turns around, pressing a button on the exterior panel and placing her hands on either side of the doors. They start to close and I take a warning step towards her as she says,

“Anybody but you.”

The doors close in my face, punctuating her words as they sink in and confirm what I’ve always known.

Chapter 14

Sixtine

“All I’m saying is I thought my rendition ofI Will Always Love Youwas very moving,” Thayer says as she closes the car door.

Nera follows after her across the parking lot towards The Pen. “Can’t argue with you there because you’re right, it had peoplemovingaway from the stage,” She answers dryly.

Thayer flips around, bringing her hand up to her chest in mock outrage as she faces Nera. “I’m offended.”

Nera and I took Thayer to Geneva for a 90s themed night at our favorite karaoke bar. Bellamy was supposed to come with us, but she’s been under house arrest at Rogue’s for the past couple of weeks and couldn’t join.

Technically, she’s free to come and go as she pleases so long as she spends the night at his.

In reality, Rogue can’t seem to let her out of his sights.

We spent hours singing every 90s hit in the book, with Thayer’s croaky vocals being my main source of entertainment.

“Six, have my back here please,” Thayer says, linking her arm in mine. “Tell me I have a singing career in case the whole soccer thing doesn’t work out.”

“I’m happy you’re doing those additional training sessions with Rhys.” I tell her, patting her hand kindly.

“Why?”

“Because based on your earlier renditions, you’rereallygoing to need football to work out for you,” I say.

Nera bursts out laughing as she opens our front door. “Sorry Thayer, you can’t be good at everything.”

“Why? You are.” Thayer points out.

“I am, and there’s only room for one of me.” Nera says as she lets herself fall dramatically on the couch. Thayer chucks a decorative pillow at her from across the room.

“You guys want anything to drink?” I ask, opening the fridge and grabbing myself a vodka seltzer.

“Whatever you’re having,” Nera answers.

“Same.”

I hand them their drinks and drop onto one of the living room chairs. “How are those training sessions going, Thayer?”

“Well,” She admits grudgingly, “He’s really talented, it's infuriating.”

I hide a smile behind my drink as I take a sip. Rhys has had a crush on Thayer since the day he met her and has made his interest in her crystal clear. She’s rejected his every advance because of her boyfriend back in Chicago, but something tells me those one-on-one training sessions might change things.
