"Sure does, little man," David says.

"Yes, another man in the family! We were way too outnumbered." Clark says as he runs off.

What a Christmas to remember.

Epilogue

Luke

I can't believe today is my last day at Oakside. I’m walking out with a job, a fiancé, and an entirely new family, who has welcomed me with open arms.

Everything has fallen into place. As I sit in the dining room, waiting for the final paperwork, before I head out, Levi comes up to me.

Levi is a new transfer. He's lost part of his leg and is having to relearn some of the basic everyday things. One thing I said to Brooke, when I met him the first time is he's just too upbeat. Like he's trying to convince everyone else he's accepted everything and is okay.

She agreed with me and said she's seen it as a coping mechanism, and he has to work through it.

"Hey, man. You ready to bust out of here?" He says.

"Yeah, my girl will be here to get me soon," I say.

Brooke has today off work. After I proposed on Christmas, I started looking for a place to live, but Brooke insisted I move in with her since she already has a place. When Gabbie isn't in school, Brooke also insisted she stay with us. With most of her free time, she's been getting the place ready for us.

"Man, I hope to be in your shoes soon. I met the girl I'm going to marry." He says with a huge smile on his face, but a bit of worry in his eyes.

"Yeah, who is she?" I ask.

"A girl I went to school with. I ran into her again the other day. Damn, she got hotter. How is that possible?" He shakes his head. "Shoot, I got a PT appointment, and I’m gonna be late. If I don't see you before you leave, you take care."

"You too," I tell him as he heads off in his wheelchair.

This place has started to feel like home, and I'm thankful Gabbie insisted I transfer here instead of staying in the hospital. I need to remember to thank her for that.

I don't want to think about how different my life could have been.
