“I cannot believe that we are going? Maverick, seriously? I have to go pack something… anything.” She went to run out the room, and I pulled her back onto me.
I searched her eyes. “I want to make you happy, Stevie. Want you to have everything you’ve always wanted and deserve. I’mnot perfect and I know I’m a lot to some people… even crazy to some. Promise me that you’re not going to leave me.”
Her eyes watered as she looked into mine. “Does everyone leave you, Mavie?”
I looked at her. “Eventually.”
I had been alone for a long time. Aside from Corleon, Jeffie, and then Kim when I was fucking around with her, it helped with the loneliness at times. Traveling and business took up a lot of time, so I never had much time to sit and think about having forever with someone.
Whenever I was alone, I thought of having someone to share my life with. I had all this money, homes, jets, yachts, and islands, and I was lonely. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed my own company.
Since Wonder had been here, I enjoyed her company more. She had me considering giving up quiet hour just to sit and watch her paint. I’ve never considered trying to change until I met her. It was because she didn’t try and change me.
I tried the chicken for her, and she never forced anything on me again. She didn’t find me annoying or call me out on shit. I always noticed when she took notice, and she continued on. She was constantly studying me like I was doing the same with her.
Doing a spontaneous trip to Italy was some shit that I would have never done. I wouldn’t have ever fucking left the next day, and even as I sat here, I was getting anxious thinking about it. Her hands covered mine, stopping me from rubbing them together.
Whenever I was nervous, anxious or wanted to fuck something up was when my hands got to rubbing together. “I’m here, Maverick. I can promise you that I’m not go?—”
“Don’t make promises you intend to break.”
She grabbed both sides of my face and kissed my lips. “I don’t intend to break this promise. You have to meet me halfway. Don’t do things that will push me away… okay?”
“Yeah.”
Recommendation: Listen to “As” by Stevie Wonder
The reason Jeffiewas my right hand was because she made the impossible – possible. All I had to do was tell her something, and she was handling it without any question. I always told her she deserved the world, and I knew Corleon would make sure she got that.
Wonder was the first one up in the morning ready. While she slept, I packed a small bag of my things, while she tossed whatever in her bag in the morning. I told her we could buy clothes when we got there, but there was certain shit that I couldn’t travel without.
The pilot came and told me there were three hours until we landed. Wonder came from the back and sat across from me. She didn’t say anything, which was unlike her, while I continued to work. There was a bunch of shit that needed my signature on it for this ball, and I had been putting it to the side because I hated dealing with the paperwork.
Jeffie could only do so much without me, so I had to handle my business. “Why you staring at me like that?”
“You’ve worked the entire time.”
I looked around the jet and then at her. “Got to work so I can take you on more spontaneous trips like this.”
She smiled. “Can we cuddle?”
The only reason I found myself working was because she had taken a nap. “What’s the matter?”
“I had a dream about my mom. I swear I have a love and hate relationship with her coming to me in my dreams. I love them because they feel so real and give me comfort that she’s alright. Then, I hate it because when I wake up, I feel so empty.”
It was crazy how much I could relate to her when it came to what she was feeling. When my moms or pops visited me in my dreams, I felt like I was smiling the entire time I was asleep. It was when I woke up that I was reminded that it was a dream and they were gone, and I would never see them again.
Unless you experienced it, then you wouldn’t understand how empty and numb you felt on the inside. “Come here.”
She abandoned the other chair and climbed on me, and I relaxed the seat back while wrapping my arms around her. “I hate feeling like this… it’s always the same thing when she visits. Never says anything, she just sits on the edge of my bed taking me in. I spill my guts to her, and all she does is look at me… doesn’t give me words of wisdom or nothing.”
I rested my head in her curls as she continued to ramble about her dream. She held me tighter, as she continued to talk, and I listened. “Wonder, it’s starting to sound like you have beef with your moms now.”
She popped her head up. “I do, say something… she can’t possibly not have anything to say about my life right now. I got kidnapped, fell for my kidnapper, gonna marry him.”
“You got a crush on your future husband, Wonder?” I fucked with her, and she looked away while blushing. “Nah, come say that shit in my face.”
“You say it first, Mitchell.”
