“I wanted today because it’s my mother’s birthday,” he revealed and I lifted my head and stared into his eyes.

“Really?”

“Yeah.”

I kissed his face. “Happy birthday to your mommy. I think it’s special that you wanted to honor her and make me your wife on her birthday.”

“I’m always down when it comes to their anniversary, their birthdays, and the day they were murdered. My uncle took so much from me, and I want to reclaim something positive when it comes to them.”

“What did he take from you, Mavie?”

He looked at me as I rested my head on my arms while on his chest and stared at him. “He took my parents from me which was everything. Change my entire life and robbed Zoya and Landon of truly knowing our parents.”

“Do you think your life would have been different had they been alive?”

I rubbed his face, and he took my hand and kissed it. “Think my life would have been different. Never got the chance to have that life and can’t do shit about it now.”

“Where is your uncle?”

“All you need to know is that he took my family, and I took his.” He had this menacing look in his eyes as he spoke about his uncle.

He looked down at me and smirked. “Yeah, you right, Wonder.”

I snuggled in his arms as he held me, kissing my forehead a few times as I kissed his chest. That warm and safe feeling I had been chasing for so long, I had found.

It became real when the lawyers came to the farm, with Zoya on Zoom, and I had to sit down and sign a bunch of papers.

“I’m not understanding why I need my own lawyer.” I looked at the screen and Zoya was eating lunch, while onelawyer sat across from me with Maverick next to him, and my lawyer sat next to me.

Maverick looked up at me. “Stevie, you are about to sign a lot of paperwork, and you need to negotiate what you want. Should your marriage not work, what do you want? Menace wants to make sure that you are always taken care of. The lawyer is for your own good… not connected to us, and he can negotiate what you want on your terms.”

“I don’t like this, Mitchell.”

He looked up into my eyes as his hands were clasped together. “What don’t you like, Baby?”

“I don’t want anything. What do I have to negotiate? If we don’t,” I paused.

The thought of us not being together was breaking my heart. How were we discussing this when we just got married? “You thinking too loud.”
