He does as he’s told, but I don’t miss the sheen of sweat on his forehead. “You’re my captain, my most trusted guard, and yet you tried to shoot my mate. And now you will die.”

“Did anyone help him?” I call out to the men.

No one says anything.

“Halo? Did anyone help you?” I ask him.

He shakes his head.

“No? And how about Nova?”

“I told you if you aren’t loyal to me, you should leave. I’m giving you a second chance to do that. I won’t accept disloyalty, and above all else, you will protect the queen. You protect her before me.”

The men bow, and none of them leave.

I walk off, leaving Halo on the ground. Now that he’s taken care of, I have to go and deal with Nova.

But first, I’m going to pay a visit to Soren.
