The cell door is open, and just as I step in, Shadow slices Bax’s head off with a sword. They are standing in a semi-circle around their uncle, watching him bleed out. He makes a coughing, spluttering sound, trying to speak. That all too soon stops, and he falls to the floor, the hands clasping his neck, letting go.
Salem is grinning, looking happier than I’ve ever seen him, while the rest look on stoically.
“Traitorous bastard,” Salem spits as Silver and Sage rest a hand on Shadow’s shoulder.
“He can’t hurt your mate anymore,” Silver says quietly, then turns when he notices me. “Is she okay?”
I nod. “She’s resting. Astrid said she will be fine. Her and the baby.”
Four sets of identical eyes suddenly pin me.
Oh shit! I forgot they didn’t know.
“You got our baby sister pregnant?” Shadow whispers in a low, lethal tone.
“You’re going to be uncles,” I say, crossing my arms over my chest.
The tension dies down after I say those words. “An uncle?” Salem murmurs, staring at his dead uncle. I wonder what’s going through his mind.
“We kill an uncle and become one,” Sage mutters, stepping over the dead body and coming up in front of me. “Congratulations. Let’s hope she has a little pup instead of a demon.”
“You’ll love her either way.” The hard edge to my tone is subtle but noticeable
“Her?”
I shrug. “Just a feeling.”
“A little pup that looks just like Saylor,” Shadow whispers to himself, a smile playing on his lips. “This is cause for celebration.”
I don’t mention they were just about to try and kill me over it and decide to go with the flow.
“Can you pretend you don’t know and let Saylor tell you?” I ask, hope in my tone.
Sage laughs and slaps my shoulder. “Sorry, brother. You can face her wrath as punishment for having sex with her in the first place.”
Assholes.

“I’m actually glad you told them,” Saylor muses, her lips kicking up at the corners. After sleeping for a few hours, she woke up, back to her normal self. “Saves me from dealing with them being all dramatic.”
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to. I wasn’t thinking,” I admit, sighing. We’re both lying in bed after having a big family dinner with everyone, celebrating our child.
And the end of King Bax’s reign.
“Sunshine, I don’t want you using your magic to that extent anymore. If something happened to you—”
“I made a mistake, but it won’t happen again,” she assures me, placing her head on my chest. “And I heard your voice calling me, Bane. That’s how I got out. You grounded me, I think. You saved me.”
I didn’t do anything other than scream her name, freaking the fuck out, but I’m glad she thinks so.
My hands move to cup her round ass, squeezing the globes. “I won’t risk it.”
“You aren’t risking anything.”
“I’m risking everything,” I hiss, lifting her to straddle me.
“I won’t do it while I’m pregnant,” she compromises, planting a soft kiss on my mouth. “I think I’m not as strong as I usually am because I’m pregnant. I felt magically drained, but it all worked out. I’m safe. Bax is dead. Raiden will step up to lead the shifters, and we will stay here and lead the demons.”
