I fix her with an impatient glare and she throws up her hands.
“Fine. Don’t take any notice of my warnings, but when she packs up and runs off with lover boy, don’t say I didn’t warn you.”
She flounces off and I sigh deeply. Fuck Tanya and her plots and scheming. I’m so done with it. She resists every word I say as an amusing game and undermines my authority in my club. If she left I would probably pack her bag for her and if she wants tohook up with a lowlife like Riley, then she can join Clara’s club and rot in hell.
One of the other girls slides my way and throws me a longing smile. “Do you fancy some company, Atom?”
Her baby blues are not my usual type and her long blonde hair is not my preferred color on a woman, but she’s a pretty girl and fairly new around here, so I nod, beckoning her closer with a crooked smile.
“Sure honey. What you got in mind?”
She settles between my legs and I run my hand around her waist, my fingers brushing against the bare skin of her ass cheek that’s hanging from the low slung cutoffs she’s wearing.
She presses her ample cleavage against my chest and I lean in to capture her willing lips. This is a perk of the job I never thought I’d take up because there was only ever one woman for me and she chose another.
Then why does it still feel as if I’m betraying my soul every single fucking time?
Morning dawnsand my companion dresses with a blush stained on her pale face.
I watch her unashamedly as I resist yawning, wishing I had slept alone last night. Sometimes I require company. A warm body pressed against mine and a willing woman in my bed with her legs wrapped around my waist. I lose myself in their treachery as they use me for their own agenda while already planning their next victim. I’m good with that and I give them a good time. It’s the least I can do, but my heart is never in it.
That’s because I no longer have one.
She smiles tentatively. “Well, I’ll be, um, off. Will I see you later?”
“If you come to the club, undoubtedly.”
I know her meaning but give it no consideration. I may fuck her again because she’s a sweet girl and if she doesn’t cling to my arm, I’ll respect her more and may even make it a third time. The trouble is, they sink their claws into your arm and cling on tight, which drives me further away. I’m nobody’s man and don’t intend on chaining myself to one woman and so if she accepts that, we may enjoy another round.
Her face lights up and she says breathily, “I’ll make a point of finding you.”
“Sure, whatever. Have a good day.”
This isn’t hearts and flowers and she must realize that. It’s a fuck. Nothing more, nothing less. A good time and something to scratch an itch.
“I could, um, bring a friend if you like.”
Fuck! Just when I thought she may be useful.
“Sorry, darlin’.” I shake my head. “I’m not up for sharing.”
“But.” She appears confused and something about the expression in her eye tells me everything I needed to know.
I jerk my thumb toward the door. “Close the door on your way out, oh and darlin’–”
Her face falls as I say roughly, “Don’t come back and make sure to send Michael my regards.”
The guilt in her expression reminds me why I should always be on my guard because this isn’t the first time Michael tried to set me up. I’m not even sure why he bothers because I have no inclination to go anywhere near him, his business, or his family. However, I’ve known for a long time now he still views me as a threat for some reason and is forever trying to dig up dirt on me to pull me under his command like every other sucker in this town. Well, fuck him and fuck his wife because they are bothdead to me, which drags my attention back to the lone biker who has rolled into town. Why is he here and why is he shielding Lucy as if his life depends on it?
CHAPTER 27
CLARA
Afew days later, after I drop the girls to a friend, I pass by the dance studio to pay the fees. As I push inside, I notice the bodyguard sitting behind the desk and he smiles briefly and says with his lazy drawl.“What can I help you with, ma’am?”
“You’re still here, biker, despite my warning.”
He shrugs. “It would appear so.”
