“No.”
“Thank fuck,” she groaned, a chuckle leaving me.
“Does this mean you’d like to see Logan? If not, I’ll go out there and tell him you’re not ready.”
“I want to see him,” she said softly, taking my hand and giving it a squeeze.
“Let’s finish up in here and head out there then.”
We climbed out and dried off, my eyes catching on her ripped jeans. She hadn’t been kidding, the whole crotch was torn open.
Her hair was wet, so she patted it dry with the towel and left it to air dry as we got dressed before stepping into the hallway, nerves crossing her face.
“I don’t know what to say to him,” she said quietly, her face softening a fraction when she heard Logan laugh at something Ander had said. She was angry, but she couldn’t just pretend like he’d never meant anything to her.
She missed him, and I hoped that seeing him would help them start to repair the damage.
“Start with hello,” I offered, and she elbowed me in the ribs and started walking ahead of me.
She hesitated before stepping into the kitchen, and Logan’s eyes ran over her instantly to make sure she was okay.
Ander inspected her discreetly too as he finished serving the food, and I realized he’d served four bowls of pasta.
Logan was fighting himself not to say anything, I could tell he wanted to blurt a bunch of stuff out, but he waited until Raven spoke.
“Hey,” she said carefully, her voice cracking a fraction.
“Hey,” he answered, not taking his eyes off her. “How are you?”
I didn’t want to be pushy, but I strategically walked past her to grab a bowl, giving her no choice but to step out of my way and closer to Logan. She was weakening, seeming unsure if she should get closer or not.
Ander slid two bowls in their direction before grabbing one for himself, walking closer to her and giving her hip an affectionate squeeze. “You two talk. Me and Lopez will eat in the living room.”
I expected her to decline, but she nodded and took a seat at the counter beside Logan, grabbing her fork and shoving pasta into her mouth as if it would delay the conversation.
Since I knew Logan was treading carefully, I followed Ander into the other room, hoping they figured their shit out a little in private.
CHAPTER TWELVE
LOGAN
Iwanted to hate how easily Ander could touch Raven, but I didn’t. It was hard to hate him when I could see his affection towards her written all over his face.
If he was lying, he was damn good at it.
Once I was alone with Raven, I toyed with my food, not knowing what to say. She’d been getting my texts, so she knew I was sorry.
What else could I say?
“I miss you,” she mumbled after a few minutes of silence, and I tried really hard not to get excited about those few words, but it gave me hope.
“I miss you too,” I said calmly, wishing I could just tell her I loved her and make a bunch of promises that I knew she wouldn’t listen to right now, so I kept them to myself.
When she turned her body slightly to face me, I gave her my full attention so she knew whatever she wanted to throw at me, I’d accept it. I was a piece of shit for how I spoke about her to Reid that day, so if she wanted to tell me so, I’d take it.
“Would you have wanted me to get an abortion if I hadn’t been run down by the car?”
That wasn’t at all what I was expecting her to say.
