I worked my way to sit against the headboard while Beau dropped the two tablets into my hand. I swallowed them down with a cool sip of water.
"Drink all of it," he said.
I did as he said, and then settled back into my pillow. The sun hadn't popped over the horizon yet, and we were well within our rights to sleep until at least noon, since we'd stayed up so late last night.
I could feel Beau staring at me, even with my eyes closed. "Come back to bed."
Instead of crawling over me, he walked around and climbed under the covers to slide into place behind me. He didn't touch me, unlike last time. "You're burning up."
"I'm sorry." I was hot, but not in a feverish and shivery way. I'd never felt like this before. "Cuddle anyway?"
He laughed and pulled me close to him. His body felt like a cool compress against my back. I fell asleep before I could think too long about it.
My fever, or whatever it was, had broken by the time my hip decided I'd slept on my side for too long and woke me up. I was still in Beau's arms, but he'd wrapped the covers around me and lay uncovered beside me. When I twisted my neck to see his face, he stared back at me.
"How long have you been awake?"
He shrugged. "Not long."
"What would you like to do today?" I'd already slept a good chunk of it away, but that wouldn't stop me from enjoying the rest.
"You're not leaving this bed, at least not until I know you don't have a fever."
I scowled at him, which only made him laugh.
"Room service can bring us a thermometer and some eggs and toast."
The thought of eggs made my stomach queasy again. "Maybe toast?" I whispered.
He nodded. "If you have a fever, you're going back to sleep. If you don't, you can come watch more crap television with me until dinner. Then, if you're still feeling all right, we can enjoy the moonlight from the jacuzzi."
"Hmm." The water jets sounded amazing, but I was grateful Beau had suggested waiting until nightfall. I still had a bit of a headache. The thought of sunlight reflecting off the water made my head throb even more.
I passed the fever test with flying colors. Shifters ran hot, but my temperature was normal for me. After I successfully navigated toast, hours of rugged outdoor men, and a plateful of pasta without feeling sick again, we made our way to the jacuzzi at sunset. Beau and I sank onto opposite sides with our legs tangled in the middle. I adjusted my posture against the jets, trying to work out the kinks from lying around all day.
As promised, the moon was a bright crescent in the sky. Beau moved to sit beside me, draping his arm over my shoulder so we could stare up at it together.
He kissed my temple. "Are you feeling any better?"
He'd been asking me that at least once an hour since he allowed me out of bed.
"I'm fine." I laced our fingers together beneath the water. "What are your plans for tomorrow?"
"Do you like baseball?" he asked.
"Not really." I shrugged.
He rolled his head against mine, sloshing water over my shoulder. "Thank goodness. I don't either, but there's a game tomorrow. I would take you if you wanted to go."
That sounded like a waste of time to me.
"Do you like museums?" he asked. "There are some weird ones around here."
"Not particularly." I was looking forward to going to the research facility in Norway with Beau, if he went, but I didn't really care for art or other collectibles gathered in a museum.
"We could try an escape room."
I frowned. "What's that?"
