She flung herself into his arms and kissed him, hard. His puzzlement gave way to hunger as her small, hot tongue slid against his own.
At first he let her take control, enjoying the way she cemented each long kiss with a shorter one, as if she was stamping her ownership all over his mouth. When his need grew too much, he threaded a hand into her blue hair and wrapped the other round the nape of her neck. Holding her steady, he plundered her lips until she was breathless. He could have kissed her forever but there was something he had to know.
He laid her down in the grass and propped himself above her, his expression stern.
“Stop trying to distract me, Blue. I’ve told you how I feel. Your turn.”
“You mean…” she fluttered her eyelashes. “You didn’t hear it the first time?”
“On that rock when a million volts of power were pouring through you? I heard it. And now I want to hear it again.”
“You’re so needy.”
He slid a hand over her breast and teased her nipple to erectness. Heat started to circle low in her belly.
“Let me hear you say it, Blue. I have to know.”
The raw edge to his voice made her catch her breath. The words teetered on her lips. But they got no further.
They were stopped by an invisible barrier. By the wall of guilt from all those deaths on her conscience. By the knowledge that she, selfish coward that she was, didn’t deserve to love.
She pressed his hand tighter to her breast to distract him.
“Let me show you how I feel, hunter.”
She kissed him hard. If he noticed her evasiveness, it was lost in the desire that rose in both of them as their lips meshed and their tongues entwined. His warm fingers slid under her top andonto her bare flesh, wreaking havoc with her senses. But when he tugged at her jeans, she stopped him.
“I need to tell you something first.”
“Anything.” He grazed a thumb over her bottom lip, looking at her mouth hungrily.
“I’m human.”
His eyes snapped to hers.
“What?”
“The reason I’m alive… well, only part of me died. The witch part. I’m as human as you are now.”
He frowned as he digested her confession.
“So all that bullshit about me getting old before you…?”
“I just wanted to make sure you really wanted to be with me. Don’t be angry, Blake.”
“You should have told me sooner.” He tried to gather his thoughts. “How do you feel about being human?”
“I’m still getting used to it. It’s not so bad.”
“You’re lucky I don’t break your pretty neck. From now on, no more lies from you. You got it, Blue?”
“It wasn’t a lie, it was an omission,” she said indignantly.
“No lies, no omissions. Clear?”
She nodded demurely. He narrowed his eyes.
“What else aren’t you telling me?”
