When the door shut, Chase shook his head. “That’s not gonna work.”

“What else do you want me to do? It might work better than you think.”

“They know who Skye is, or else why would we be here.”

“Whyareyou here? I can’t imagine a reason she would be here with you, not one that makes sense.”

“She’s stubborn. She was leaving no matter what I did. I forced myself in her car.”

“Which you were only too happy to do.”

“You don’t seem too concerned about how happy or not I am, distracted by other things yourself, maybe?”

Brooks ignored his reference to Isabella. Everything was a disaster. And it was now painfully obvious that Skye was the worst kind of woman to have in his life in a crises. Because she had the means to follow him. He’d not fallen for a quiet woman content to wait at home. Keep the home fires burning. He snorted. She was a raging inferno and no where near home. “Is anything she’s planning a viable solution here?”

Chase eyed him for ten seconds, maddening seconds, before responding. “You underestimate her.”

“I hope that’s true in this case.”

“But I don’t know if she’s got anything we don’t already have. The biggest problem is that no one knows where we are.”

Brooks frowned. So they were no better off than before she arrived, but possibly not worse off. “You two look close.” He wanted to bite the words back and swallow them but it was too late.

Chase shook his head. “Nowhere near as close as you two looked. Dude, you’re gonna have some splainin’ to do and I don’t think there’s much you can say to fix what she saw.”

Brooks sighed. “You know what I was trying to do.”

“But there’s no way she’s gonna believe it. You were pretty convincing. And comfortable with her.”

The door opened and a guard was roughly pushing Skye into the room when Isabella shoved her fist into her captor’s throat. He doubled over, making horrible gasping sounds. Skye kicked the man to her front right where no man wants to be hurt and then when he doubled forward, she kneed him in the face.

“Whoa.” Brooks winced.

“What did I tell you?” Chase jerked on his ropes.

Brooks felt helpless on the ground until Skye and Isabella finally knocked out the men. Then Skye rushed to him, starting to cut through his bindings. She didn’t say anything.

The ropes took longer than he would like to finally cut through and he moved to do the same for Chase. They drug the men into the room and cracked the door closed.

“You two were amazing. Maybe you can take the lead out and chase and I will watch our backs.” Brooks tried for humor but Skye wasn’t amused. “What did they…do?”

“They wanted the location of a cross, but since neither of us know…” Isabella ignored all the tension between the three of them. “It’s a nightmare. They’ve got guards everywhere. Bored guards. Once they notice our two haven’t returned, they’ll all be in here. We’ve got to move now and decide what to do later.”

Brooks stood. “Okay.”

“Wait. We need a plan.” Skye’s most obstinate expression was in full force.

“We need to plan and walk at the same time.” Brooks rushed to the door but Skye refused to move. Chase stood beside her.

“Skye, now is not the time…”

“Look, Brooks, just listen. There’s a garage full of vehicles. There’s a checkpoint gate on the way out. If I can get to any phone I can call my team.”

“Okay, done. Let’s head for the garage which is in which direction?” He raised his eyebrows, once again moving for the door.

Isabella had searched the guys and she tossed Brooks two guns and one to Chase.

Brooks almost pocketed both but Skye held out her hand. He hesitated, studied her, and knew he was just gonna have to treat her like a member of the team. So he pressed it into her hand. “Do you know how to use it?”
