He indicated they leave the room. Then as soon as they had taken a few steps, he whispered. “What are you doing?”
“What do you mean?” She smiled as innocently as possible.
“I mean. What are you doing?”
She looked up and down the hall and then pulled him into a side room. “I’m not staying.”
He nodded, eyeing her.
“You don’t think it’s a good idea to leave?”
“No. I don’t.”
“I’ll take that into consideration.”
He stepped nearer, and she recognized that he was handsome. That there were women who would be into him. But even with his hulky frame and soft eyes standing overly close, she could only think of Brooks. His eyes held a question and she searched them for a moment. But then she shook her head, a slight movement only but he stepped back. “Brooks is gonna kill me.”
“What? If I leave?”
“Yeah.”
“Well, I’ll put in a good word for you.”
He turned away, his mouth lifted in a half smile. “Don’t think even that will save me.”
Her watch beeped. “I gotta…” She indicated the door.
He nodded.
She hurried down the hall, rushing to grab her things. The jet was ready. Her parents had one in a hangar here in Mallorca. She asked a team to meet her in Turkey. Beyond that, she’d rely on her head of security to advise her. But she would feel much better knowing she was doing something, not waiting around for things to happen. She whipped a text off to Lucan as well. This organization Brooks was a part of, they were professionals. She knew that, but they underestimated the power of a royal and the resources behind her. Also, she knew her father had a good relationship with the governors of Turkey.
At any rate, she soon found herself in the garage. She’d need to borrow a car. She’d been quiet about her plans. She didn’t want to talk to the other guys about it. And she figured her disclosure to Chase would be enough. They wouldn’t need to worry overly much about why she was gone. She reached for the first set of keys.
“You’ll want the Infiniti.”
She whipped around, her breath catching in her throat. “Chase.”
“It’s faster. They’ve added some extras.”
She returned the key and grabbed the Infinity fob. “Okay.” She hurried to the black car, threw her bag in the back and then Chase got in the passenger seat.
“What are you doing?”
“I’m coming.”
She raised an eyebrow.
“Pretend I’m not here.”
She sighed, “I don’t have time for this.”
“Perfect. Drive.”
She pushed a button and the door opened behind her car. Chase was a complication, but not too large a one. She knew his presence would keep his team in the loop of her activities, but she did feel a measure of comfort to have him with her. “Did you bring—”
He held up two guns and just the sight brought fear into her throat. Hopefully she wouldn’t need to use it. “Thanks.”
As they pulled away into the dark night, she tried to find the courage that had gotten her to this point. They rounded a bend, the dark windy roads unnerving her more than usual.
