ARGENT

* PRESENT DAY *

Amischievous grin spreadacross my face when Adrian stepped into Aiden’s hacker room. The dimly lit room was filled with the hum of computer monitors, creating an atmosphere of anticipation.

Adrian’s expression reminded me of a kid on Christmas morning. He has always loved tech stuff and everything that goes along with it, so this is probably a dream come true for him.

As we gathered around, our eyes darted across the screens trying to catch anything that seemed outof place. Aiden has hacked into Zavier’s phone and nothing has stood out to us as to where Starlet is or if he is the one behind it at all. Aiden has tried to track his location but that was a dead end.

The weight of disappointment overwhelms me and I can’t help but feel like I’m failing her. I have still been going to her house every night, trying to find some kind of solace, but it only intensified my anguish.

If she was still alive, her mind must be drowning in doubt and fear, believing that I had forgotten about her. The mere thought of it caused a lump to form in my throat. As I swallowed hard, a notification that popped up on Zavier’s phone captured my attention.

D.S:

We need to talk.

Confusion spreads across all of our faces as we exchange bewildered glances. The air feels tense, thick with anticipation.

D.S

What is it with the fucking initials?

“Who the hell is D.S.?” Adrian blurts out, his voice laced with frustration.

Demitri, always cunning, chimes in with a sly smirk, “We’ll find out, right, Aiden?” A faint scent of anxiety hangs in the room. Suddenly, the silence is shattered by the shrill ring of Demitri’s phone. My eyes briefly dart towards him, and my attention is caught by the name flashing on the screen.

Dear Chloe.

The sight triggers a subtle pang of curiosity within me. As our eyes meet, a rush of embarrassment floods Demitri’s face, turning it a vibrant shade of red. I can’t help but wear a mischievous smirk as I continue to study him. Sensing the tension, he glances at Adrian before excusing himself and swiftly exiting the room.

Those two have grown closer in the past year, they can’t stop staring at each other. Either Adrian knows something is up and chooses to ignore it, or he is just blind as a bat.

Suddenly another message appears, drawing my attention back to the screen.

Me:

What's up?

And another.

D.S:

Meet me.

Something's up.

Me:

Not now…I'm busy spit it out.

D.S:

Argent Pierce…you wanted to know where I got all the weapons from…it was his.

AsI fixate on the text message, my blood boils like scorching lava, surging through my veins. How could this guy stoop so damn low? I was aware that the stolen weapons were sold to Zavier, but I never fathomed he would be the one leading me straight to the guy who stole from me in the first place. I had to get to the warehouse and find out if anyone knew him by name. I know most of my employees prefer to remain nameless, but he had to slip up somewhere.

As I rise from my seat, ready to leave, another message pops up.
