“I know that feeling well,” he said softly.
He got her. It seemed to her he always did.
And she remembered words close to that the first day they’d met. That he knew what it felt like to feel babied.
“We have a lot of the same feelings,” she said.
“What?” he asked.
“You told me you knew what it was like to be babied when we first met.”
He laughed. “Wow, I did. I can’t believe you remembered that.”
She kept the frown from her face that he didn’t remember every moment with her as she’d done with him.
That would be unrealistic.
And though maybe there were times she lived in a fantasy world, she didn’t get lost there either.
“I remember everything,” she said quietly, then turned to look around the room. “Do I have patients lined up already?” Best to get her mind back in work mode.
“I thought we could start slow the first month,” he said. “Since you’re here now and it’s quiet, we can talk about it some.”
“I get it,” she said. “You want to just watch me. It’s your business. I understand completely.”
She wouldn’t be upset over that.
“Thanks for that,” he said. “I’ll have you doing exams of patients after their cleanings. Then we’ll start scheduling things where I can come in and observe. Or even watch that first week. I could even let you do some of my appointments if the patients are agreeable, but it’s better to schedule people with you so they know.”
“You’ve got to start somewhere,” she said agreeably.
“You do.” He put his hand out. “Welcome aboard Bond Dental.”
The minute her hand landed in his, all those tingles from the first time slammed into her repaired heart and almost caused it to skip and flutter again.
But she knew what it was this time.
“Glad to be here,” she said, smirking. “In more ways than one.”

BEING A TARGET
If the smirk on Angel’s face was throwing him off, it had nothing on the struggle he had to get past the heat in his hand as they shook.
He didn’t remember feeling that before with Angel.
Not Spencer’s baby sister!
But he hadn’t seen her in years and didn’t remember her looking likethiseither.
She was still a tiny little thing. He never knew if it was because of her heart issues or not, but she was barely five foot whereas Spencer was six foot. An inch shorter than Coy, and Coy loved to bust his best friend about that.
He had to lord it over someone because both his brothers were taller than him.
Which they rode his ass about too.
So yeah, he did know what it was like to be babied and was stunned Angel remembered him saying that to her so many years ago.
