“Yes, but listen to me very carefully. You didn’t mess anything up. Let’s get inside and we’ll sort it out.”

“Are you going to sort me out?”

“Don’t tempt me, little girl.”

Alden called me a little girl once in a while, usually when I was being stubborn or sassy, but hearing it from Wyatt brought a rush of embarrassment doused in arousal.

I clucked my tongue on the roof of my mouth. “Good little girls don’t need to be rescued from the bar when they make stupid decisions.”

“Naughty ones do.”

Well, shit.I opened the passenger door and waited for him to get out to help me down. One thing was clear, he was serious. That knowledge drained any fight I had left.

Walking inside Alden’s house, we both stayed quiet until we reached the bathroom. Searching for bandages kept me occupied though I felt the heat from his gaze on my body. Casually glancing over my shoulder, I saw his eyes were dark with something I couldn’t name. More than lust. Something that made me utterly weak in the knees. If I’d told myself earliertonight that I’d be drooling over him and tossing aside my worries, I’d have laughed.

“I can wrap up both your ankles and sling your arms, but I can’t find Band-Aids,” I said, still searching for supplies.

“I’m fine, Kennedy. I’ve had my share of black eyes. I think you’re stalling anyhow. We really need to talk.”

Finding the Band-Aids, I smiled triumphantly and held the box over my head with one hand. “You need something to cover that cut on your cheek.”

Wyatt sat on the edge of the counter, allowing me the leverage to patch up the small wound. My tending pressed us close to one another. Using the silence to my advantage, I kissed him. It was completely out of character for me, but I did it all the same.

He pulled me by my belt loops to him, decreasing the distance further. “Mm. Is that all I needed to do to get your attention? Get roughed up while defending your honor?”

“It’s a lot of things. The way you referred to me. The way you handled it. The…. way you dropped everything to make sure I was okay.” I kissed him again.

“Quit distracting me.” Wyatt growled against my lips.

“Wyatt.”

“I had concerns of my own. Ones I didn’t want to bring to light. Not being enough for you. Hell, not meeting Alden’s expectations. I have been flitting around flower to flower like a lost bumblebee for a long-ass time. I don’t do relationships, Kennedy.”

“I know what you’ve been saying all these years. I’ve been listening.”

“How could I have expected you to agree to a throuple with me when you didn’t have anything solid to base it on?”

Sighing, I leaned my forehead against his. “You’re right as usual. If you’re always right and Alden is always right–”

“No, babygirl. I’m not always right. But this time I am. Give me a chance. Let me prove that I can be your Daddy.”

Staring into his gorgeous eyes, more green than brown in this light, I thought of how to answer him. Hearing him say that he wanted to become my Daddy was not on my radar.

“You’ve already taken a huge step tonight toward that role. I’ve never seen you handle anything like the way you did with Leon. You could have let your temper get the better of you. Or swung back, but you stayed calm. You told him that his behavior was unacceptable. If I wasn’t so annoyed at myself…”

“Hm, Trixy? Finish your thought.”

“I would have been aroused.”

He smirked then winced from the split lip where Leon’s ring must have nicked him. Wrapping his arms around my waist, he buried his face into the crook of my neck. “Don’t lie to me. Your panties are soaked.”

“You said that in the truck.” I groaned.

“Well, darling, we should take advantage of the situation. Unless you’re drunk, then we’ll have to wait until the morning.”

Wyatt pushed me away slightly to give him enough room to stand. Cupping my face, he tilted it up to meet his eyes.

“I only had a few drinks,” I replied, hoping it would be enough to convince him I was in the right mind to make decisions.
