Frost leans down and kisses the top of my head. He goes back to putting on the finishing touches of dinner. We’re hosting Christmas Eve dinner for my family. He’s nervous and trying to hide that by keeping busy with anything he can get his hands on. I don’t think it’s possible for me to adore this man more than I already do.
Frost has slid into my life so perfectly, like a puzzle piece locking into place. He’s been living with me for a few weeks now and it’s been going so well. I didn’t even realize how lonely I was before Frost until I had him here, taking up space.
He gives me a soft smile as he responds, “I’m sorry, baby. Do you want to roleplay it? I can totally pretend I don’t know and you’re telling me for the first time?”
“No, that’s silly,” I say right away. Then I quickly add, “thank you for the offer. You’re quite sweet to me.”
“Of course I am. I want you to keep me,” he says with a grin.
“That’s not even in question. I’m keeping you for as long as I can.”
“Careful, Avery, because I’m pretty sure that’ll be forever.”
I grab Frost’s wrist, tugging him towards me. I stare up into his pretty eyes and give him a kiss. “Frost. I know this is all fast, but you have to know how I feel about you, right?” Frost doesn’t move, just watches me. “I love you.”
I watch as Frost’s face morphs into disbelief and then overwhelming joy. “Oh,” he breathes out, his lips stretching into a grin. “Holy shit. That’s incredible.”
“Yeah, it is.”
“I love you, too. In case that wasn’t obvious. I love you and I love our baby. I want to be your alpha, officially.”
I wrap my arms around Frost’s neck, pulling him into a tight hug. “Yes, I want that too. The sooner I have your mark on my throat, the better.”
Frost buries his face against my neck, kissing me there. A shiver runs through me at the promise of his bite. Just as I’m about to leap into his arms and demand he take me to bed, there’s a knock at the door.
“Fucking balls!”
Frost chuckles at my outburst. He kisses my lips. “Later. Promise.”
“I don’t know what fucking balls actually entails but you know what? I’m holding you to that,” I tell him as I make my way to the front door, leaving him laughing. Pulling the door open, I find my mom, my dad, and Ellie waiting for me. And behind them, is Aiden. “Hello everyone,” I say with a smile, opening the door wider and letting everyone inside.
“Hello, sweetheart,” my mother says, stopping to hug me and kiss my cheek.
“I didn’t realize you were coming, Aiden. Nice to see you.”
“Your mom invited me. And if I’m being honest, I was curious to meet this mysterious alpha of yours.”
I roll my eyes. “He’s not mysterious. I just didn’t think you’d have time to meet before Christmas. Shouldn’t you be with your own family?”
Aiden shakes his head. “We get together on Christmas Day so I’m totally free tonight.”
“Well, come on in,” I say, pulling him into the house. When he gets close, he freezes, sniffling the air. Ah, just what I was complaining about earlier, Aiden instantly picks up on my new scent.
“Oh,” he breathes out, looking down at me. “Oh, Avery. Are you okay? Are you happy?”
I nod my head. “I’m really, really happy, Aiden. I don’t want to get into all the details because it’s not my story to tell, but Frost has been burned in the past. The fact that he’s even willing to give our pack a chance is a huge step. Please make him feel welcomed, okay?”
“Of course. As long as you’re happy and he treats you right, he’s more than welcome here.”
“Good,” I say, walking into the dining room where everyone is already waiting. I turn towards Frost, finding him watching me carefully. I give him a quick wink to help ease his worries. “Frost, meet our pack alpha, Aiden. Aiden, meet my alpha, Frost.”
Frost’s cheeks turn red as I call him my alpha. He gives me a surprised look before walking over to Aiden and offering his hand. “It’s nice to officially meet you, Aiden. Avery’s told me all about you.”
“Hopefully he hasn’t told you all the super embarrassing things.”
“Not yet,” Frost says with a grin.
Frost finishes bringing the food in from the kitchen, setting it all on the table. I look around the table at my family, warmth bubbling up inside of me. These are my people and there’s no place I’d rather be. Frost fits in so well with everyone without even trying, solidifying the feelings inside of me telling me that he belongs. He’s my alpha and this time next year, we’ll have a little one joining us at the table. I’m breathless with emotions. I didn’t know it was possible to be this happy.
