Not going to lie, that went way smoother than I thought it would. I didn’t think a biker could be so nice, and I definitely expected him to get angry when I told him no. But he actually looked concerned when I got scared. Muttering a thank you with a nod, I take off for the door he pointed to.
When I make it outside, it’s like another party—more bodies grinding against each other and lots of alcohol. I spot a bonfire and make my way over. As I walk over, I hear the voice of the man who was once the love of my life.
“I’m telling you, Cara, you have to change up that boy’s diet. He farted in my face, and I thought my skin was about to melt off!”
The crowd around them roars with laughter. A short woman, who can’t be more than five foot three, glares up at him and slaps the back of her hand on his shoulder.
“Stop talking about my babies like that. There’s nothing wrong with Khai. He just has manly farts is all.”
“They’re my babies too, Cara. It’s all coming from a place of love. No tiny human should produce those kinds of smells.”
The laughter from the crowd dies out in the background as my heart sinks. He has kids. I should have known he would continue to live his life as if nothing had happened. I turn to get out of here. This was a mistake. I know if he has a woman and kids, he wouldn’t dare try and help me.
Before I can get far, another guy grabs me. This one doesn’t have a cut. He’s dressed in regular clothes, so my guess is he isn’t a part of the club. His breath reeks of alcohol and we almost tumble to the ground. I try my best to pull away, but his grip is firm.
“Come on, sexy. Let’s get out of here.” He tries kissing me, and I throw my hands up in front of my face, trying to push the man away. He keeps up his efforts, undeterred by me scratching and clawing to get free.
“Please, stop!”
I knew coming here was a mistake and now my biggest fear is happening all over again.
Suddenly, the man is gone, and Dice is standing in front of me. “You okay, babe?”
I nod as my tears fall. Dice curses under his breath and shouts across the lawn. “Thor, get over here!”
I try and protest, but I hear the shuffle of people behind me. “What’s going on, brother?”
After ten years, his voice still gives me goosebumps.
What the hell?
Luckily, my brain and heart are still intact. “This little lady said she was here looking for you.” Before I can make a run for it, Dice spins me around and I’m face-to-face with Jonah. I expected him to be pissed, but he looks downright murderous. I take a step backward and my back is against Dice once again. Thor trains his gaze on Dice and growls. In a second, Dice’s body heat is gone.
“The fuck you doing here, Madison?” he growls with a deep scowl.
My mouth opens and closes like a fish out of water. I am completely speechless at the level of animosity he’s giving me. If anyone has a right to be upset or hostile, it’s me.
“TheMadison?” the woman from earlier asks him.
When Jonah nods, she too sends me a glare that also makes me take a step back. Turning back over to Jonah, she asks, “Want me to kill her?”
Chapter Four
THOR
If I wasn’t so furious, I would laugh at Cara’s blatant question about killing Madison. She asked that question as if murder wasn’t a big deal. Now don’t think my bestie is acompletepsycho. She’s just very protective of those she loves. I know without a doubt, if I told her yes, she’d put a bullet in Madison’s head. For some reason, the thought brings a pain to my chest.
I shouldn’t feel bad for this woman at all. She hurt me years ago and I’m still trying to recover from it to this day. I loved her and was completely faithful, despite all the advances from girls throughout our entire relationship. Every girl in our school tried breaking us apart, but all I saw was her.
When Madison stares up at me with fear in those beautiful brown doe eyes, I sigh. Shaking my head, I turn to Cara. “No, just get her out of here.” I turn to walk away, but Madison grabs my wrist.
“Please, Jonah. I need your help,” she pleads.
I turn back to her, not believing the audacity she has to ask me for anything. As pissed as I am, I see the desperation on her face. Despite my brain telling me to say fuck off, my heart tells me to help her.
“What?” I growl at her.
“I need you to make him stop.”
