Dropping her leg, I cage her body under mine and devour her mouth. Maddy hums as her body melts against mine. We lie in each other’s arms for a few minutes before my phone beeps. Sighing, I roll off Maddy and grab it. Soon as I read it, I laugh at the group message Viper just sent to all the guys. Maddy looks at me with a raised brow and I hand her my phone.
Viper: BEWARE: Do not enter that damn kitchen! Tiny barely escaped with his life when he went in there to ask how much longer. Enter at your own risk!
Maddy giggles and hands me back the phone before getting out of bed. “I’m going to go down and help for a little while. I know they want me to just sit back and enjoy myself, but I can't. As sweet as it was of them to offer, I just can't sit back and do nothing.”
Smiling, I hop out of bed and bring her into my arms. “Let's get showered first and then I’ll leave you to it.”
She nods and we shower and get dressed for the day. I’m sitting on the bed, putting my shoes on, when I look up and see her coming out of the closet with her property cut. My mouth falls open and I quickly stand. “Are you sure, Maddy? You said last night your mom was having a hard time with all this.”
“I am. As much as I love my family, I’m not going to hide what this is between us. I love you and I want a life with you. I don’t think it’s going to be easy for her to accept but I hope she loves me enough to acknowledge the fact that I’m happy.”
“I don’t want to come in between you and your family, but I can’t let you go. I won’t.”
“And you won’t have to. I forgot to tell you yesterday, Doc told me there’s a permanent position at the hospital.”
I kissed her forehead, happy to hear that she isn’t going to let her family dictate our relationship. I don’t want her going back to Arizona. I want to build a life with her. Here. With the family I’ve built with the Warriors. “You’re taking it, right?” I ask her.
“Yes, I am. I had already started to stress about what I would do once the nurse I was filling in for returned and now I don't have to.”
A wide smile stretched across my face. Our life was coming together. We just had minor bumps in the road ahead of us. But we would be just fine. All long as we had each other, the rest didn't matter.
“You’re mine, Maddy. Forever. I’m going to marry you, put my babies in you, and we’re going to live the life we were always meant to have, together.”
She smiles and rises on her toes, kissing me. We finish getting dressed and head downstairs. Maddy rushes off to the kitchen and I take a seat on the couch, smiling like a love-drunk fool.
A few hours later, the clubhouse is filled with brothers. All chapters are together for the first time for Thanksgiving. The Ol’ Ladies are starting new traditions around here. We were always brothers, but somehow they brought us closer than ever. Some of us didn’t have a family growing up. Even some of the ones who did, it doesn’t necessarily mean it was a good one.
A loud commotion coming from the kitchen has all the brothers turning in time to see Dice running for his life. He has a dinner roll in one hand and a huge piece of ham in the other. He’s breathing heavily with a huge smile on his face. That is until he notices all the guys gawking at the food in his hands.
“Back the hell off! I went in there and risked life and limb for this and I ain’t sharing!” he snarls.
Some of the guys look as if they’re about to take him down when Hannah, Bear and Sara’s daughter, approaches Dice. She puts on her best puppy-dog eyes and gives him a heart-dropping pout. Her lashes flutter as she holds out her hand. Dice scoffs with a laugh.
“Not. Happening. Those soft eyes aren’t going to work on me.” He snickers.
Hannah goes from sweet and loving to looking like a complete deviant. “Is that right?” she challenges with an evil smirk.
Dice looks around uncomfortably while all the brothers watch in amusement. Bear isn’t standing too far behind Hannah, and he has a shit-eating grin on his face. Dice visibly swallows but raises his head defiantly.
He must be out of his mind. Technically Hannah is Bear’s sister. I’m willing to bet she’s a spitfire just like Bear and Sara. She trains with Sara and Cara. She and Cindy both do. Those two have become two little girls you do not want to piss off. This isn’t going to end well.
Hannah scrunches up her face and begins to make herself cry, sobbing very loudly. All the while she has a smile on her face and it's directed at Dice. He seems uncertain of what’s about to happen. That is until a familiar hiss and growl is heard.
Dice turns to see Draco making his way over. Everyone knows not to cross Draco. While he might love the kids, he can’t stand the adults. I’ve been lucky enough to avoid the hellhound but some of the brothers not so much. That’s one kitty you don’t want pissed at you.
Dice quickly hands over the food, his eyes wide in horror. “You are your daddy’s child!” he hisses and storms off.
The guys in the common room roar with laughter as Hannah takes off to the kids’ table and shares her winnings with the other children. Marco high fives her as they laugh together. Bear shakes his head with a chuckle and takes back his seat at the bar.
About an hour later the ladies come out and ask the guys to help load the chafing dishes on the tables. While we normally only have one table for food, today is much different. There are eight tables lined up along the walls. The guys jump upand begin to help. Maddy walks over to me while wiping her forehead.
“I’m so tired. I don’t know if I have the energy to eat, and I was only in there for a few hours. The girls have been up since three this morning. I don’t know how they’re doing it,” she says, shaking her head.
“I’m sure they appreciate you coming in and helping.”
“Oh, I’m sure of it. As soon as I walked through the kitchen door and grabbed an apron, Bianca said, ‘God bless you, oh great one.’ She’s completely delirious.” We laugh and Maddy takes out her phone, checking the time. She gasps before stuffing it back into her pocket. “We have to go. I told my family I would come get them before two o’clock and its almost three.”
Before we can take a single step, her mother’s voice stops us dead in our tracks.
