The laughter in the room dies as everyone looks on in understanding. “We know, Thor, and as soon as the tech squadgets what we need, we’ll take that fucker down,” Torch says, placing his hand on my shoulder.
“Tech squad? Does your sisters know you’ve given them that terrible name?” I snicker. A few of the guys seem just as amused as I do.
“Hell no. Sara would probably cut me and Cara, God who knows what her devious mind will drum up,” he says with a shiver.
That gets some nods of agreement around the room. My phone rings, cutting through the silence. I don’t want to look but with Madison back, I can't take any chances.
Just as I suspect, Tati is calling me for the hundredth time! I blocked her phone number yesterday, and now she’s resulted toInstagramto call me.
“Tati?” Viper inquires.
Dropping my phone back into my pocket, I blow out a frustrated breath. “Yeah, man. Her ass is calling me all day every day. I blocked her phone number and now she’s blowing me up on social media.”
“What the hell did you do to that girl?” Torch laughs.
“Nothing that I don’t do with any of the other women running through here. Her ass is acting like we were in a committed relationship.”
“Well, whatever you do, you better get a handle on that. You know what Viper and I went through,” Blade says.
“I know, man, and that’s what scares me. Candy and Ivy lost their marbles for you two. Madison isn’t a punk by any means, but she’s always had a soft heart. I don’t need Tati popping up, trying to fuck with her.”
“Then have a conversation with her. If she isn’t trying to hear what you’re saying then find another course of action,” Viper suggests.
I nod my head, thinking his words over. Eventually, I’ll have a conversation with her. Right now, my focus is completely on Madison and Thomas. Nothing else is important to me.
After a few hours of goofing off with the guys, I decide to check up on Madison. As I walk into the home, I notice how quiet it is, so I tiptoe up the stairs. Cara and Viper’s house is only this quiet when the kids are down for a nap or they're gone. I don’t want to take the chance in assuming they’re gone and risk waking them up from being too loud.
When I’m close to her room, I spot Duke and Daisy lying down in the hallway right outside her door and I hear a small giggle.
“Why thank you, Liam.”
I make it to the doorway in time to watch Liam put a Cheeto in Madison’s mouth as he smiles up at her. Looks like my little guy is sweet on her. I grin while propping myself in the doorway and watch them.
“Mad, TV.” Liam points with a yawn.
“What do you want to watch?” she asks while smoothing down his hair. Liam shrugs and Maddy grabs the remote and puts on Paw Patrol. It’s a good pick but I can tell by his sleepy eyes he won’t make it past the first two minutes. By the time the intro is over, Liam is fast asleep, snuggled up with Madison.
I might be getting ahead of myself, but I hope one day I can see her do this with our children. She is the only woman I ever wanted to have kids with. I love being a godfather but having kids of my own with Maddy was everything I always wanted. I’m broken from my stroll down memory lane when I hear Maddy’s voice.
“How long have you been here?”
Grinning, I walk to the end of the bed and sit down. “Long enough to know Liam really likes you. He barely shares his Cheetos with me.”
“No way.” She smiles at me.
“Yup. Cara is a foodie and she passed that gene down to all her kids. Believe me when I tell you, you don’t want to see any of them hangry.”
Madison giggles and quickly slaps her hand over mouth to muffle the sound. She readjusts Liam so he’s lying on the pillow in the middle of the bed. After putting a throw blanket over him, she surrounds him with more pillows, sheltering him. After she’s satisfied with her handiwork, she gets up and crooks her finger for me to follow her. She leads me down the hall to the stairs and takes a seat on the top step. I take the space beside her.
“So, how’d you end up with Liam?”
“I guess he pulled an escape move on Will and came searching for me. Will came and tried to get him, but I begged to let him stay. I wanted the company. I assured him if it became too much, I would bring him back. He really is the sweetest little boy.”
“He is. How did your phone call go?”
Madison turns to me with the brightest smile as her eyes gloss over with tears. “It was perfect. I can’t thank Cara enough. It’s not like I would ever forget what my family looked like, but…”
“I get it, Maddy. Speaking to them on the phone isn’t the same as seeing them, and soon, you’ll be able to hug them again. I promise.” I don’t think I’m making promises I can’t keep. I have full confidence that Cara, Sara, and Tech will find something we can use.
