“When Sara and I were twenty, we were recruited into a special department in the government. Some might have said we were hackers, but we were doing a little more than that, and no, I can’t tell you what that was. We hacked into local cameras, trying to keep up with where he took you. We lost you for a while and I was scared we wouldn’t find you. Finally, after I hacked into his computer system, I found his parents’ will and noticed they left him the house he took you to.”
I sit there silently for a few minutes, thinking of everything she just said. Hackers? Government? Like, who are these two girls? I thought them running a tech shop was just another adventure, but obviously not. I mean, don’t get me wrong. I’m super grateful that they were able to find me, but I think it’s time to get to know these two on a better level.
“There’s something else I want to ask. Cam told me women aren’t ever involved in club business, but I’ve seen you two go to church and you were with the guys when they came for me. How is it that you two get to be involved in club business?”
I don’t mean to sound like I’m jealous because I’m not. I’m just curious as to why they get to know everything and the rest of us only get to know what we’re told. I have no desire to go to church or do any of the things the guys do, but I have a feeling there’s a pretty big reason why Cara and Sara get to be involved.
“We have certainskillsthat come in handy,” Sara says.
“Like the hacking?”
“Exactly.”
I wonder why the club would need hackers in the first place but seeing as they just used those skills to save me from a crazy lunatic, I forgo asking that question.
This club is not at all what I expected. Every time I think I have a handle on things that surround the club, something else happens and I’m left speechless. I know one thing for sure, this club sticks together no matter what. If someone is in trouble, they handle it as a unit. That’s what makes me feel so safe about being here.
“So, what do I do about, Cameron?”
“Maybe you two could give her one of the charm trackers to ease his mind,” Sofia suggests.
“He said he was going to do that yesterday. Then, this morning, he woke up all crazy talking about not letting me work because of the Knights.”
“That’s bull. There’s way more of us then them. He’s scared, Bianca. He lost you for four years because of some bull and then he gets you back, only for you to get kidnapped. Trust me, I’m his triplet, we’ve been in tune with each other our whole lives. When you get home, talk to him again. Both of you have had time to cool off so it might go better this time. If he’s still being hardheaded, threaten to tell our mom.”
We all burst out laughing at her childish piece of advice. I will not go running to Crystal every time Cam and I have problems. We’re going to have to learn to work things out for ourselves.
“Cara, is there anything else you need me to do before I leave?” Will asks as he puts his shoes on.
“Nah, you’re good. Chase down for his nap?”
“Yup, and the triplets are in the playroom.”
Everyone says goodbye and watches Will leave. When I turn around, the girls all have weird expressions on their faces. Sofia’s is the easiest to read. They know something.
“What is it?” I ask them.
Sofia drops her gaze to her lap. Cara’s face is blank, and she’s giving her classic poker face. Sara looks away sheepishly. What is going on?
“Seriously, why are you all looking like that?”
“It’s not our secret to tell, Bianca.” Cara shrugs but doesn’t say anything else.
What kind of secret? Everyone knows he’s gay, so what else could it be? Deciding it’s time to mind my business, I let it go. I’m sure whatever Will is hiding, he’ll tell everyone when he’s ready. When the front door opens, we turn around to see Viper walking through the door.
“Da-da, Da-da, Da-da!” Angel shrieks, running for Viper.
As soon as she’s close enough, she launches herself at him and he catches her. Her tiny arms go around his neck and she snuggles into him. My ovaries literally explode at seeing this tattooed, foul-mouthed biker be so gentle with his daughter. He’s holding Angel likes she’s the most precious thing in the world.
“How’s my beautiful angel?” he asks her.
Angel straightens up to look at Viper. They’re smiling at each other like no one else exists in the room.
“I happy.” She giggles.
“That’s good. Daddy had a rough day. Can he get one of Angel’s magical kisses to make it better?”
Angel leans forward and plants a sloppy kiss right on his nose.
