“Feel better?” he asks.
Demon can be a shit-talking annoying little bastard sometimes but when it comes to me, he has a heart of gold and knows how to make me feel better.
“Eventually I will.”
Demon leans forward and brings his beak to my cheek. Tears threaten to fall again. Demon is one of the smartest animals I’ve ever encountered. I truly believe there’s a human soul trapped in his body. He knows when to be gentle and show me comfort. After I’m done eating, I leave the pets in the suite. Once I have my stuff, I’m coming back here for a few more days before I head home.
The entire drive goes by in a flash and before I know it, I’m pulling up to the clubhouse. River opens the gate and gives me sorrowful eyes. I give him a sad smile and a nod while I pull through the gate.
Here we go.
ChapterSeventeen
VIPER
TWO DAYS AGO
Watching Cara’s truck pull out the gate, I feel like someone has ripped my heart out of my chest. That stupid bitch Candy walked into my office naked as the day she was born. When I looked up and saw her, I didn’t even get a chance to tell her ass to get out before Cara walked through the door.
I saw the hurt in her eyes, and it killed me inside. After finding out about her ex, Danny, I know exactly what this did to her. I would never cheat on Cara. No other woman will ever compare to her.Ever.
When she started beating the shit out of Candy, I let her do her thing, but then things took a bad turn. I could see in her eyes she had snapped and didn’t know what she was doing. If I had let her continue, she probably would have ended up killing Candy.
As much as I wanted Candy dead, I wouldn’t let Cara do something like that with the club bunnies walking around. Those bitches are so spiteful, I wouldn’t put it past them to get Cara locked up. That’s the only reason I stepped in and stopped her. When she stormed out, I went to follow but Axel and Tech stopped me. After she passed by my office, I knew I had to get to her and explain, but then Duke and Daisy got in between us.
Not going to lie, I almost shit my pants. Those two big fuckers looked ready to rip me a new asshole. They are a hundred percent loyal to Cara. As much bonding as I’ve done with them, that went quickly out the window when they saw her upset.
“What did you do?” Sara snarls at me.
When I turn to look at her, she looks downright murderous. I’m already preparing myself for when Torch and Blade get here. They were down at the strip club, but I’m almost positive Sara had already called and informed her brothers on what’s happened.
“Sara, I swear that looked worse than what it was. I was going over the books when Candy walked in naked. As I looked up and saw it was her, Cara walked in. I didn’t even get a chance to tell Candy to get the fuck out.”
“Did you tell her that?”
“She didn’t let me. After I pulled her off Candy, she wouldn’t listen to a word I said.” I take out my phone and dial Cara’s phone but it goes to voicemail. “Cara, baby, please call me. Nothing happened with her, and I didn’t want anything to happen. I love you, baby. I need you. Please, call me.”
I hang up and pray she calls me back. I can’t lose her. I can’t live without her. “Do you think she’ll come back?” I ask Sara.
“She’ll come back but I don’t know if she’ll come back to you.”
My gaze falls to the ground and for the first time in my life, tears fill my eyes. I didn’t cry when my mom died, but the thought of Cara leaving me sends a hurt through me I have never experienced. I start to walk away but then the sound of motorcycles approaching has me turning around.
Blade and Torch fly through the gate. Torch parks his bike, not bothering to turn it off. He chucks his helmet to the ground and storms over to me. I expected this. When he’s close enough, his fist connects with my cheek. I let him have the first hit. I know he needs to feel like he’s defending Cara, but this isn’t going to be like when he threatened me.
As president, I won’t let him disrespect me like this. I counter his punch with one of my own. We go back and forth, trading shots with each other. I can hear Sara in the background yelling for someone to break us up. It doesn’t work like that. This is how we handle our problems.
“I told you not to hurt her!” he yells, as he sends another blow to my cheek. Fuck. He packs a mean right hook.
“It wasn’t what it looked like!” I yell back. I give him an uppercut that has him staggering backward. “I swear on my patch, I would never cheat on her! Cara didn’t give me a chance to explain!”
Torch stops and looks at me confused. “Candy was in your office. Naked.” I wipe the blood from my lip and sigh in exhaustion. “Cara walked through the door five seconds after Candy. I didn’t even get a chance to tell the bitch to get out.”
“Fuck.” He sighs.
“Yea. I know.”
“Look, Viper—”
