Page 99 of Cash

“Fuck me, Cash.”

“Love you, Kitten.”

I watch as Livi’s eyes well at hearing those words for the first time. Then I fuck my woman in all the ways she likes best.

Afterward, wrapped around me again, Livi speaks.

“We didn’t use a condom any one of those times, Cash. I’m not on birth control as you know.”

“Don’t care. If you end up pregnant, Liam will get a brother or a sister. If you don’t, we’ll try for one at a later time. But Livi, know this. We will be having more children at some point.”

“You’re bossy as hell. Promise me we will have more children though.”

“Promise, Kitten.”

While at work the next day, Axel pulls all the club members to the side to make an announcement. Gunner and Ava got the go-ahead to foster the little boy that James and Livi assisted. Cheers are loud, and there’s a lot of smiles to be seen. Later, Gunner stopped by to give us the details.

The boy is four years old and his name is Lucas. It took some time, but the social worker finally found a birth certificate on file for him. No father was listed, so little information about Lucas is known. No family on the mother’s side can be located, so he’s coming to live with Gunner, Ava and the twins.

Gunner said it was love at first sight for Ava. Lucas hasn’t received any help of any kind with his deafness, but Ava’s already making arrangements to change that. Lucas may have lived in a silent world until now, but he’ll receive all the tools he needs to thrive. He’ll also receive a large, loving family that’s excited to include him.

The twins were so excited about gaining a brother they let the cat out of the bag to Trudy before Ava could. Gunner said Trudy immediately hired an instructor to teach American Sign Language to the club members. He handed out a schedule of the nights the instructor will be at the club so we can attend if we choose to. No doubt, the instructor is going to see a lot of cuts at those classes.

After Gunner leaves, smiling like a loon, we all get back to work, but there’s better energy in the gym now. People are excited and happy about the newest addition to our family. I step aside and call Livi to let her and James know. I have to jerk my phone away from my ear to save my own hearing abilities when she and James start whooping loudly. We make plans for all of us to be at the clubhouse for the first class even though James already knows how to sign. He said he needs a refresher course and being a prospect, he’ll need to be there anyway. After our conversation, I disconnect, check on Liam and get back to work. I smile to myself, knowing that life is going to improve for Lucas now.

It’s been a few hours since speaking with Livi when my phone vibrates. Looking at it, I see it’s James calling.

“Hey,” I answer.

The wail of the siren makes it difficult to hear James, but I hear enough to get my feet moving. Not looking back, I bolt for the door with the phone still glued to my ear. Outside, it’s easier to hear James speaking without the added noise of the gym sounds.

“We’re less than a minute out.”

“Any word on who was shot?” I bellow as I straddle my bike.

“No. The call just said shots fired, and that someone’s down. EMTs are on their way too. Got to go, Cash.”

James disconnects, and I fire up my bike. As I’m hitting the throttle, I see Axel and Pooh on theirs right beside me. We hit the street and turn toward my aunts’ home. Riding at dangerous speeds, we split lanes and weave our way through the traffic. Heart racing, mind seeing all sorts of images, I try to remain calm enough to make the ride alive. Making the final turn onto my aunts’ street, I see an ambulance and several patrol units parked in front of their house. Sliding to a stop, I drop my bike and take off at a run. A cop I don’t know throws up his hands and steps in front of me. Putting his hand on my chest, he tells me I can’t go any closer. I start to push him aside, only focused on getting inside, when another steps up to assist. That’s fine. I’ll just have to move two aside now instead of one.

“You Cash Larson?” the second cop asks.

“Yeah. This is my aunts’ house,” I growl while trying to sidestep him too.

“You can’t go inside, Cash. It’s a crime scene now. Your aunt is in the ambulance. She’s…,” the cop says but I switch direction and run toward the ambulance.

I hear Axel’s shouting as I make my way across the yard.

“My sister’s here too! Bella! Is she okay? Bella!”

I breathe a sigh of relief when I hear the cop tell Axel that the young girl is fine. I reach the ambulance to find the back door open and Lottie sitting on the stretcher. I launch myself into the back of the rig, startling the female EMT tending to Lottie. Ignoring the EMT’s protests, I cup Lottie’s face gently and view the damage to it.

“I’m fine, Cash. So are Lola and Bella. They’re okay,” Lottie says in a shaky voice.

“Where are they?”
