“Just what I need. A bushel basket of boy parts and nothing to attach them to.”
“Bless your heart, and thank you for noticing,” James says in his best southern accent.
“Hey. Check out the biker he’s with. He’s more your type.”
“Holy shit balls! That biker is fine!” James exclaims in a loud voice.
I duck my head a little as both bikers swing their eyes our direction. Damn James and his loud-ass mouth. When I look at my partner, I see him winking lewdly at the biker next to the Viking God. Both guys grin and give him a chin lift.
“Let’s tag team their asses. I’ll take Hawaii Five-O and you can have the Viking,” James states as he starts to stand.
Grabbing his arm, I pull him back down to his chair.
“Your guy is wearing a tat on his ring finger. He’s married,” I explain.
“I don’t see anything. I’ll find out for sure. Wanna bet he’s not? What’s on the line?” James asks when I nod my head eagerly.
“Dinner tomorrow night. Loser cooks. Deal?” I challenge.
“Deal. Be back with my order for dinner in one moment.”
I watch James stride up to the bikers who have now been joined by another hot as hell guy. What is it with that club? Their club bylaws must include things like a great ass, big muscles and a perfect smile required to join.
James is talking, and I know this even though I can’t see his face because his arms are flailing about. The man becomes mute if you hold his hands still. I can also tell by the grins that are being aimed at him. Then there’s outright laughter, and all eyes turn my direction. Oh shit! Time to retreat. I bail off my chair and make a beeline for the restroom. I should never have let James go over to them alone. He’s probably sharing something that would embarrass me, and I’m now hanging out in a restroom, hoping to avoid the bikers. Please, God, gag James before he tells them that I call blondie The Viking God.
“You staying in here the rest of the night, Livi?” James asks as he enters the women’s restroom like he belongs here.
“Did you say anything to embarrass me?”
“Of course not. I wouldn’t ever. By the way, what do you want for dinner tomorrow night? Fucker’s as married as they get. Newlywed as a matter of fact. All the good ones are taken, I swear,” James states while checking his look in the mirror.
“Steak or ribs. Baked potato. You can pick veggie or salad. Is it safe for me to leave now?”
“Have I ever embarrassed you before?” James asks with his innocent look firmly in place.
“Yes, and often.”
“Fair. I’m pretty sure I didn’t tonight, though. Let’s leave our cars and walk to your place. We’ll have a sleepover. It’ll be fun,” James states as he wraps his arm around mine and leads us out the door.
When we stop to pay our bill, we’re told it’s been covered already. The waitress points over my shoulder, and I already know who she’s indicating. I drop a tip on the bar and turn to face the bikers. All three are grinning huge and raise their beers in a salute. Face flaming, I mouth “thank you” to them, grab my food to go and nearly drag a laughing James out the front door.
Chapter 2
Cash
It’s always a fun time watching some guy hit on Vex, my club brother. He takes it well and always politely brushes them off. Vex is definitely not interested in men. He’s nearly slept his way through the female population up until he met his match. His new bride, Taja. Now he’s off the market, and I’m sure there are lots of broken hearts all over the Denver area. Not all those hearts are residing in female bodies either.
I have some experience similar to Vex’s. Not the whoring around but having a guy crushing on me. My dad’s caretaker, Terry, eyes me up every damn time I stop over to check in with my dad. Terry’s fucking fantastic at being Dad’s caretaker and Dad wouldn’t tolerate anyone else. But I could live without the constant fawning I receive from Terry. I should’ve gotten Vex’s admirer’s phone number for Terry. Might’ve been a match made in heaven.
“I’m out of here, ladies. Got a wife to get home to. See ya’s,” Vex says with a grin as he turns and leaves the bar.
Happy as hell to see Vex smiling and laughing tonight. He and Taja have been to hell and back but are on the mend now. They stuck together, and with the club at their backs, they’ve pulled through the horror of losing a child. Never having been in that position, I couldn’t imagine their pain. Frustrating as hell because I couldn’t fix it for them either. Being the club enforcer, Sergeant at Arms, I always feel it’s my responsibility and duty to fix shit for the members. To protect them and be on the look-out for anything that can harm them. What happened with Taja and Vex wasn’t something I could protect them from. I’ve stood by, silently watching them struggle through their grief, but respecting the hell out of both for their strength.
“Wanna hit up Dreams?” Horse asks while finishing off his beer.
“Not tonight. Was a long-ass day. See ya,” I answer before I walk the same path Vex took.
Walking up the street to where my bike’s parked, I hear voices and laughter. Looking across the street, I see the man who approached Vex, along with his female friend, ambling along arm in arm. I grin because I’m positive she’d be bitching him out if she knew that he gave up her secrets. She must have suspected because it didn’t take long for her to bolt to the bathroom to hide.
