“Yeah. Works great. See you then, Cash,” Livi answers before walking off with Snots leading the way.

It’s only after she’s out of sight that I realize I stood there watching her go with a smile firmly planted on my face. That’s also when I realized I didn’t get her phone number. Damn.

Chapter 5

Livi

I walk casually down the street with Snots until I turn the corner. Then I switch to a powerwalk almost dragging my poor dog behind me. I whip out my phone and call James.

“Yo, Bitch,” James answers.

“I met him! He asked me out!” I nearly screech in excitement.

“Jesus, girl! Give my ears a break! Who’d you meet?”

“Cash Larson. The Viking God in leather,” I answer in a lower, but not less excited, tone.

“Holy shit! You said yes, I hope.”

“Of course, I did. We’re meeting on Friday after our shift,” I confirm.

“Get your fancy-ass over here and give me the details. Leave nothing out,” James demands.

“I need to shower and then I’ll be there. Need me to bring anything?”

“Wine if you want some. Otherwise, I have beer. I’ll get dinner started and see you soon.”

*~*~*~*

“I have to admit, maybe jogging does have some benefits. You know, outside of the being healthy, taking care of your body, weight control aspects of it,” jokes James.

“Well worth it to me. But Snots and his aversion to exercise paid off today. Of all the lawns for him to collapse on. How awesome is my dog?” I ask as we eat our dinner.

“I’ll let you know after your date. If Cash is all that he looks to be, Snots is the man. If Cash turns out to be a massive dick, Snots is just the lazy, smelly dog he appears to be.”

“Fair enough.”

“So, tell me more about this Terry guy. Single? Hot? Passive? Up for freaky, dirty sex?” James asks.

“He’s hot. Not passive as far as I could tell. He’s not shy or afraid to speak up. He’s funny. No idea if he’s single or not, but he has a thing for Cash. Actually, I’m not sure that he really does. I think it’s more of a running joke with them.”

“Gay man trying to make straight man uncomfortable type thing?” James questions.

“Yeah, but in a fun way. Cash didn’t bat an eye, so I think it’s been happening for a while. Terry’s the kind of guy you’d want to hang out with and people watch together. He’d be hilarious at it.”

“Sounds interesting. You should set us all up on a double date.”

“Let’s see how it goes with Cash and me first. But, yeah, I think we’d both have a fun night. By the way, dinner’s awesome. I love it when you lose bets. Nobody grills a steak like you,” I answer with a sigh as I lean back in my chair and contemplate loosening my belt.

“Thanks, love. I like losing the bets too. Gives me a chance to cook for more than myself. You’re the first partner I’ve had that I like spending time with outside of work. If I wasn’t openly gay, the whole department would be talking about us by now,” James answers with his usual little boy grin.

“They call us the ‘Odd Couple’ because we’re polar opposites. I think it’s just jealousy because we work so well together.”

“And because we’re the rock stars in our squad. Best clearance rate, least amount of court losses, fewest tickets fought. The brass loves us because they get few complaints about how we handle ourselves. We’re the perfect team. They have reason to be jealous,” James states emphatically.

“Yep,” I say while popping the “P”.

“Let’s clean up in here and find something to marathon on Netflix.”
