“Yeah, sounds good.”
“I’ll meet you at the clubhouse around 6pm,” I tell him.
“Perfect.”
*~*~*~*
I made sure everyone knew what was up tonight. Livi even called James, and he’s coming too. Arriving at the clubhouse, we find nearly every member present. As soon as we enter, Mac starts shouting at Livi.
“Assman going down! Assman going down!”
Livi stops dead in her tracks and looks up at me with a worried expression.
“What if I lose? Oh hell, Cash! Everyone has bad days, and today might be mine?”
“Your worst day is still superior to most others’ good days, Liv. Stay calm and shoot like you always do,” James advises calmly. “Focus and breathe. Squeeze the trigger, don’t pull it.”
“I’m not going to make a damn cent off this. Everyone’s betting against Axel. No one’s betting against Livi,” Petey complains as he stops next to us.
“You’re betting against your own son?” Livi questions.
“Of course I am! The boy’s a good shot, but his ego will cost him the win. That and being nervous about losing to a woman,” Petey responds with a laugh. “Wait! Bailey will bet for Axel to win!”
“No, Bailey won’t. I’ve already bet on Livi for the win. Sorry, Petey, but girl power and all that,” Bailey states in an insincere attempt at apologizing.
At that moment, Axel walks into the main room from the kitchen. As he’s looking around at all the people in the room, he comes to a slow stop. Realization dawns on him that he’s been set up. A full pout hits his face as he approaches our group.
“I’ve been avoiding this to save you the embarrassment, Copper.”
“That’s very kind of you, Axel. I’ll try not to be too embarrassed if I lose and not gloat too much if I win,” Livi assures him.
“Don’t let your feelings be hurt if no one bets on you. You’re still new here and an outsider. Bikers stick together,” Axel continues trying to get inside her head.
“That’s only to be expected,” Livi responds with just a hint of a smile.
“Well, let’s go do this then,” Axel orders.
*~*~*~*
“I told you! Didn’t I tell you?” James hoots while slapping me on the back.
“You did,” I answer while watching Livi walk my direction.
She just won each and every round of the shoot-out. Rifles, handguns and shotguns, Axel was outgunned at every turn. Livi has skills, and it wasn’t even close. While I expected her to be whooping it up, she isn’t. She and Axel talked quietly for a few minutes before shaking hands. Before Livi walked off, Axel pulled her close and dropped a kiss on top of her head. Livi smiled softly then walked away.
While I want to give Axel a hard time about losing to a woman, I’m not going to. I’m not sure any of us could have outshot her, including Pooh. Shooting isn’t a male-dominated ability like most men want to believe. Dick size has nothing to do with shooting skills. Women have just as much skill as men with firearms. It’s just that not as many women take the time to learn. When they do though, they’re better students because they don’t let their egos interfere.
Reaching my side, Livi sets her weapons down on the table near their cases. Removing her shooting glasses, she pulls her hearing protection off her neck and tucks them into her carrying case. When finished, she looks up at me, and I can see the pride in her eyes. She’s happy, proud of her abilities but not gloating. I lean into her and pull her tight.
“Proud of you, Kitten.”
“Thanks,” she answers before lifting her mouth for my kiss.
“No way you learned to shoot like that at the academy,” Pooh says from beside us.
“My dad’s a gun enthusiast and collector. I started shooting with him before starting school. He’s also a perfectionist, so he didn’t go easy on me. We started with the basics and continued from there. He even insisted that I learned how to break them down and put them back together. My spare bedroom is a reloading room. I like to reload my own ammo, so I can trust what I have in my weapon,” Livi answers.
“You should see her gun collection. Impressive to say the least,” James adds.
