“What’s up, Chicklette?” Suki says answering her phone.
“Need advice.”
“You don’t even tell me you’re hooking up with Vex, but now you want my advice? My advice is to keep hooking up with Vex and give me all the dirty details about it,” Suki says laughing.
“I haven’t told Vex about Rooster or even that my dad’s an MC President. And I haven’t mentioned that Rooster’s charging me to keep Tessie. Do I tell him or is it too soon to get into the gory details of my life?” I ask cutting right to the heart of my problem.
“You tell him everything, and you do that shit ASAP. MCs don’t like secrets kept from them especially when it concerns other MCs. Vex needs to know exactly what you’re dealing with, and he needed to know that yesterday,” Suki tells me in a suddenly serious voice.
“Oh God, I know you’re right. But what if he decides I’m too much trouble and bolts?”
“Vex isn’t one to bolt because things are difficult. But if he was and did that? You’re better off without him. Nobody wants a weak man. I know you’re all Little Miss Independence and have had reason to be that way, but let him in. There’s no shame in letting others help carry your burdens, and Rooster’s a large ass burden. Better if you two have a united front than to give Rooster something he thinks he can exploit,” Suki advises.
“You’re right. I’ll talk with Vex tonight after our shift. Thanks, Suki. Love you.”
“Love you too. See you at work.”
The music seems louder tonight than ever before. It’s thumping throughout the club and inside my skull. It’s busy and I haven’t had a second to catch my breath yet. I’ve seen Vex from a distance a few times tonight, but he’s been busy too. Out of the corner of my eye, I see a few guys sit down at the bar at my end. Heading toward them, I notice their cuts have Devil’s Angels patches on them.
“What can I get you guys?” I ask politely while making eye contact with each.
“You Taja?” one of the dark-haired men shouts over the music.
“Yes, I’m Taja.”
A large hand reaches my direction and I shake it while looking at the face that it belongs to. It’s a beautiful face in raw masculinity. Nothing pretty about the hard planes and bone structure, but it’s striking. Broad forehead, high cheekbones, square jaw.Short blond hair, almost spikey looking, tanned skin and blue eyes so light they almost look gray. I see the slight lip tilt and know he’s patiently watching me check him out. I pull my hand back and tuck my hair behind my ear in an embarrassed, nervous gesture.
“Cash,” the blond Adonis rumbles out in a deep voice. Tipping his chin in the direction of the other two men, he says, “Rex and Reeves. Nice to meet you, Taja.”
“You the one whose sister works with Trigger?” asks the one indicated as being Rex.
“Yes. Tessie’s my younger sister,” I reply.
“Heard about her. Trigger loves having someone to teach and boss around. Petey said she hangs on every word Trigger says, so that’s a match made in heaven. She’ll learn a lot from him about cars and about being bossy,” Rex tells me with a grin.
“She’s already bossy so no worries there,” I answer grinning back.
“Heard she’s in need of some driving tips too,” adds Reeves with a chuckle. “Axel swears she was possessed when he rode with her.”
“Oh shit! She drove with Axel, too? I only knew about Vex riding with her,” I tell them with a cringe of embarrassment.
The men are all laughing when Vex steps up next to me behind the bar and casually tosses his arm around my shoulders. When I look up in surprise at him being there, he pulls my front to his side possessively. I wrap one arm around his waist and rest my other hand on his abs. His eyes stare into mine for a moment before he levels them at his club brothers.
I watch as Cash holds his palm out toward the other two guys and watch in dismay as they each place money into it. I’m confused but it doesn’t last long.
“Seriously? What the fuck, Vex? I thought Pigeon was talking out his ass,” Rex grumbles as Cash counts his money and then places half of it in my tip jar.
“Is there anything you guys don’t bet on?” I ask exasperated as I feel Vex’s body moving with his laugh.
“Nothing’s sacred, Taja. It won’t be long and you’ll be betting against someone too,” Reeves tells me.
“I’m her best friend and I would’ve lost money on her. I never thought she’d be that stupid,” Suki says with a frown as she joins our group.
“Hey!” Vex and I both shout at the same time.
“I didn’t mean that the way it came out!” Suki hurries to explain. “I just meant that usually I can tell when something’s up with Taja. I’d warned Vex about even thinking about going after her, and I thought he understood why. And I never thought she’d choose Denver’s biggest man-whore…”
“Hey!” Vex and I repeat.
