I have nothing to hide and really don’t care if he has a sample of my DNA but why make his job any easier? I am a biker, after all, and it’s in our blood to not like cops or authority of any kind. I’ll let them swab my mouth if it becomes the only way to clear myself and not a moment before then.

“Your attorney is on her way but you can talk if you want to. I’m not allowed to question you, now that you’ve asked for an attorney, but that doesn’t mean you can’t talk. No laws against that,” Detective Northrup tries for the fourth time.

I remain quiet while staring directly at him. After a moment of staring at each other, he looks away. Small victories are all I have at the moment so I take this one and grin. The grin quickly leaves my face when I think about Pippa. She’s got to be freaking the fuck out by now and that’s another reason to find out who made this complaint. Whoever she is, she needs to pay for her lies.

Pippa

“What the fuck do you mean he’s at the police station as a suspect in a rape case?” I screech when Trigger tells me where Pooh has gone.

“Calm down, Pips. He’s innocent and we’ll get him clear of this soon,” Trigger tells me.

“I know he’s innocent! For the love of God, he’d never do something like that! I’m not worried about his innocence! I’m worried that someone is trying to frame him! That shit happens and, him being a biker, the cops might not dig too hard for the truth!”

Before I can continue my rant, Trigger pulls me tight and holds me there. When I finally take a breath and calm down some, he loosens his hold on me enough to look down into my eyes.

“That, right there, is why I like you for him. Why I like you as one of mine. You, me, Tammy and the rest of the club will back him to the ends of the earth, girl. We’ll figure this shit out, yeah?”

“Yeah, Papa Trig, we will,” I answer softly. I get another tight hug for my words and then Tammy pushes in and I get her arms and support just like it’s always been with us.

“Let’s get you home, Pippa. We’ll stay with you and Craig tonight, or until Pooh gets home, and let Gunner and Rex do their thing,” Tammy says to me. “You and Pooh have an entire club behind you two. The truth will come out. It always does.”

I’m spending my first night in my new home, alone in bed, and missing Pooh. If he’s not home by morning, I’m telling Craig that he had to go into work. Trigger and Tammy are in one of the guest rooms and Bella went home with Petey and Trudy with questions in her eyes. She’s smart enough to know something is wrong but she held in her questions for now. Petey and Trudy may have an uncomfortable morning though if Pooh isn’t back soon. Bella will lose her mind if she knows someone did wrong by Pooh. Their bond is tight and she loves him as much as she does her new parents.

I don’t get any sleep but I stay in our bedroom until it’s light outside. When I wander out to the kitchen, I find Trigger making coffee and Tammy making toast. Craig is still sleeping and I’m grateful for that.

When I went to bed last night, instead of wearing one of my nighties, I slipped on one of Pooh’s t-shirts and a pair of sleep shorts. When Trigger sees me in Pooh’s shirt, one side of his mouth lifts in a small grin. He stops what he’s doing and pulls me to his chest. He holds me for a moment before releasing me to hand me a cup of coffee.

“Gunner called. The woman who filed the complaint–Anita Combs–is actually Peaches. The club slut that Pooh blew off and wanted nothing to do with. He said that may be the reason the detective wasn’t convinced on flat-out arresting Pooh. Not sure, but she might not have convinced the detective that she was being completely honest,” Trigger tells me.

“Axel went to the gym during the night to look at the men’s work schedule and their training sessions. We think the evening she’s claiming he raped her, he was teaching a class at the gym. That would be ideal because there would be a lot of witnesses that aren’t related to the club,” Tammy informs me.

“Wow, yes, that would be perfect!” I exclaim just as the front door opens and in walks half the club. At a glance, I can tell most of them didn’t sleep either.

Chubs makes his way to me first and I get picked up and squeezed tight. Upon setting me down, he leans close and drops a kiss on my forehead.

“We’ll get Pooh home soon, Pips. I promise. Won’t rest until we do,” he assures me quietly.

I look up into his face and realize how much I love this man being in my life. I nod my head and then look around to all the faces and realize how much they’ve all come to mean to me. It’s not just Tammy and me anymore. We have a huge family of people to help and to rely on when shit goes sideways. We’ll never be alone again. I feel a tear hit my cheek and then Chubs’ thumb gently wiping it away. I smile at him as he steps back.

“Oh shit! I broke her! She’s crying and smiling at the same time!” he announces playfully.

“Move people. Out of my way. I have lots of experience with this kind of shit lately,” Axel declares as he pushes his way through and then I get an Axel hug. I have to laugh at the huge goof. When I do, he turns to the crowd and crows loudly, “See? I fixed her already.”

“What’s going on?” asks Craig as he pushes his sleepy self through the adults.

Everyone freezes for a moment not knowing what to say.

“Yeah, what’s going on?” Pooh says as he walks through the front door. His eyes hit mine and he simply stares at me. He looks exhausted, but there are no handcuffs, so I’ll take that any day.

“It’s Sunday, so that means there are all kinds of breakfast buffets in town. We came to see if you’d like to go with all of us,” Chubs says while grinning at Craig.

“Hell yeah!” Craig shouts as he makes a beeline back through the people and back to his bedroom.

Pooh makes it to me and I’m engulfed in his strong, warm arms. I hug him back and lay my head against his chest enjoying the sound of his heartbeat. I’m grateful to have him back home with us.

“We’ll take Craig to eat with us and give you guys some time to talk,” Chubs says.
