The three of us were jumping around so much I never saw where it ended up, especially as the glitter cannons had gone off; gold and black streamers shot out everywhere, along with the fireworks popping against the blue April sky.

Every Lions player rushed the field, hollering and whooping. The crowds were stamping their feet, and cheering so loudly you could barely hear the music blaring.

“We won! We won! We won! We won!” Murray chanted. “Fuck, Pennington! You fucking did it! You beat them!”

Rafe wiped his eyes. “That was the best game I’ve ever seen!”

I stopped jumping when I nearly toppled over the wall into the dugout. “Come on, let’s go and find the others.”

I was suddenly desperate to get to Lowe. This was as much her win as mine.

I pulled my cell from my pocket when it started vibrating; Scott Fishman’s name flashing on the screen.

“Scott! We fucking won!”

“It was a masterpiece! Best game I’ve ever seen them play! Well done, sir, but I’m calling to let you know Marnie Matthews has arrived. She’s in your office.”

I stopped walking and my excitement dialed up. “Thanks, man, I’ll head up now. Can you let Lowe know where I am?”

“Yes, no problem.” Scott hung up, and I turned to the boys.

“I’ll meet you in the suite; I need to run up to my office. Marnie Matthews has arrived.”

Murray and Rafe smirked in sync, they’d almost been more desperate to get here her than I was. “Can we come?”

“No!” I called behind me, already jogging off to find my newest employee.

She was sitting in one of the chairs by my desk, cup of coffee in hand.

“Hey, Marnie. So good to see you.” I rushed toward her, my hand outstretched. “How long have you been here? Did you manage to catch any of the game? How was your flight?”

She took my hand and shook it, whilst also giving me a look I briefly wondered if she’d ever given her N.A.S.A. bosses.

Probably not.

“Yes, thank you. I arrived in New York last night, and I’ve been sitting up here since the third home run.”

I held back the smile I wanted to let out. The third home run was Jupiter’s.

“Great! And what did you think? It was such an incredible game, I’m so glad you got to witness it.”

She was about to answer when the door opened and Lowe walked through. I held my hand out to her, and almost dragged her over to where I was standing when she took it.

“Marnie, let me introduce Lowe Slater, my fiancée.”

Lowe roped her into a big hug, something Marnie had not expected given how wide her eyes opened. “Oh, I’m so happy to finally meet you! Penn’s told me so much about you, and it’s wonderful to have another woman on board. We’ve all been so excited about you starting!”

We were interrupted for the second time before Marnie had an opportunity to answer.

“Hey, boss…”

All three of our heads snapped around to the door as it opened.

Jupiter froze in the doorway.

I glanced at Marnie who looked like she wasn’t breathing, then side-eyed Lowe hoping she’d give me any indication on what I should do, but she was also staring - her head moving slowly between the two of them.

It must have been thirty seconds before either Jupiter or Marnie blinked. Then the shock on his face slowly morphed into a slow, wry smile, tugging one side of his lips.
