I propped the phone up on the counter and dialed her, knowing if I didn’t she’d only keep calling.
“Oh my God, finally!”
I rolled my eyes and squeezed some toothpaste onto my brush. “You really should have been a drama major, you know.”
“Yeah, yeah. So...?” She stared down the phone.
“So?” I replied my mouth foaming as I brushed.
“Kit, don’t make me wait any longer. What happened after the kiss the other night?”
I chuckled and spat everything into the sink, taking my time to rinse my mouth knowing how much it would annoy her. In her defense, we hadn’t spoken at all yesterday which was unusual in itself as we spoke every day, so it was only my own doing that she was on the verge of a breakdown at not knowing the gossip. Not that this was gossip, or that Murray was gossip, and weirdly, even though we spoke about everything, I wasn’t sure how much I wanted to share right now, or at all.
Yesterday had been a lot. A LOT. Starting with another perfect kiss, and ending in one of the hottest, most intense sexual experiences of my life. No, not one of.Thehottest. But throw into the mix the fact that we were away with his family for a few days, all of whom seemed to have a vested interest in Murray and I being together, it added up to A LOT. It would require a little time to wrap my head around.
I couldn’t stop the grin, however. “When I woke up yesterday, he’d been to the bakery for breakfast and made me coffee…”
“Cute. And?” she snapped impatiently, wanting me to get to the good stuff.
“And we kissed again.”
I snatched my phone up to turn the volume down before everyone heard her shrieking. “Oh my God, this is amazing. I knew it! Then what happened? What’s it like being away?”
“I didn’t really spend any time with him yesterday. I was with his sisters and the kids. Then we all went out separately, but met up later in a club.” I sighed, heavily, which hopefully conveyed everything I was feeling. “Jesus, Pay, he’s so hot.”
“Did something else happen?”
I tried to school my mouth into a straight line, but it was virtually impossible. I could still feel his hands on my skin, his fingers travelling everywhere, caressing me until I was nothing but liquid. And she could see it.
I nodded, which caused another shriek. “Shhhhh.”
“Does his family know?”
I worried my lip as I thought about it. “I’m not sure. It’s weird because I get the impression his sisters really want us to be together, likereally, really. They haven’t come outright and asked, and they haven’t said anything, but there was so much insinuation in their questions. But UGH, he’s so hot, I can’t help myself. And the way he looks at me…” I started to trail off into a daydream about exactly how hot he was, until Payton snapped her fingers for my attention. “Yeah, we need to figure it out, I guess.”
“What’s to figure out?”
My brows knotted. “I work for him, for one. You know, what happens now? He pays me and we’re in a relationship? Or he stops paying me and I stay and look after Bell, or he gets a new nanny and I carry on with what I was planning to do in the first place? Or is this just while I work for him, then we go our separate ways? I dunno, just feels a bit…” I couldn’t find the word I was searching for, but there was a niggle in the back of my head which caused some nervous knots to make themselves known. “I wasn’t expecting it to all happen so quickly, and he talks like this is our future and we haven’t even had sex yet. Or maybe he doesn’t want to have sex.”
She stared at me so long I thought the phone had frozen. “Wow, that’s some hole you’ve gone down. Way to take all the fun out of it... You’re thinking too much, just go and enjoy it. He’s hot, you’re hot, there’s no way he doesn’t want to have sex with you. So please go have some hot sex,” her eyes glinted devilishly, “and don’t worry about being a cliché.”
I rolled my eyes. “Thanks for that.”
“Anytime, what are best friends for?”
I could hear some distant shouting coming from the pool. “I have to go, I’ve slept so late. I need a shower and make myself more human and presentable.”
“You do. You’ve got a hot, single dad to keep now.”
I inwardly cringed. “Ugh, shut-up.”
“Bye, love you.”
“You too.” I hung up, stripped, and jumped in the shower.
Twenty minutes later I entered the kitchen, somewhat sheepishly, with no idea what to expect. My only saving grace was that Wolfie and Alex had maybe been as drunk as me, something which was confirmed when I found Wolfie head down on the table, resting on her arms. I definitely didn’t feel that bad.
“Morning.”
