“That was so good.”

Arlo beamed at me as I wiped the cum from the corner of his mouth. “Mmm.”

I stretched my body until I sprawled on top of him. “How do you feel about cuddling?”

Chapter19

Arlo

“And then hisparents came home, and I fled out the window in my boxers. He tossed my clothes out after me.”

I curled into Lucas and pressed my face against his bare chest as I laughed. “I can’t believe you did that.”

Lucas continued rubbing circles onto my back as we cuddled in his dimly lit bedroom. “I was a horny gay kid, and there was a guy willing to have sex. The threat of his parents coming home only added to the fun.”

I had no idea what time it was, but I knew it was late. Had to be the middle of the night. I didn’t want to mention the time or let myself yawn because going to sleep meant waking up to get ready for my flight, and I wasn’t ready for that. Given Lucas was also obviously swallowing back his yawns, and he kept telling me stories and asking questions about my life, I knew he was on the same page.

The whole thing was a mindfuck. My getting laid off had led to a drunken idea for Keaton and me to send each other on a trip, and Keaton’s well-intentioned pushiness had landed me in a town I was falling in love with and into the arms of a guy I could be in danger of falling for in a big way if we had more time together.

I could imagine a life in Dahlia Springs where I had more time with Lucas and more time to come clean to my family. A parallel universe where I took risks like Keaton.

I’m not ready for our bubble to burst.

I wanted to ask him if we could keep in touch, but a part of me was terrified of that happening. It was easy to picture myself attached, dreaming of Lucas and the town. Hung up on him while he was moving on with his life, and maybe on to someone else. It would almost be easier to part ways, maybe text occasionally, and prevent myself from being hurt further by not making any plans I could be disappointed by.

“You have to have some scandalous stories to share.” There was a smile in Lucas’s voice.

“I’m afraid the most scandalous thing I’ve done when it comes to sex is leaving my socks on.”

Lucas leaned his head back against his headboard and laughed. “You are too cute. It’s a shame. I bet we could do some scandalous stuff together.”

It made me smile each time he made a comment that indicated he wanted more time with me. I doubted I would ever understand why a guy like him was interested in a dork like me. But he was. He’d managed to be careful with me when we had sex—both times—and uninhibited. No one had busted through my self-protective instincts faster than Lucas.

“So I was thinking. We have each other’s phone numbers now. What do you think about using them after you go home?”

I squeezed Lucas tighter against me and smiled. “You want to keep in touch?”

“Hell yes, I do. I can be your eyes and ears on the ground with your family.”

My heart sank to my stomach. Of course he wanted to keep in touch because he was being generous.

“Hey.” Lucas grabbed my chin and tilted my head toward him. “And I want to keep talking to you because I like you. If you weren’t leaving, I would want to keep seeing you.”

“You would?”

“I would. Would you want to keep seeing me?”

“God, yes.”

Lucas laughed as he slid down the bed until our faces were inches apart and he leaned in for a kiss. As the kiss deepened and my dick considered rallying for round three, my phone rang on Lucas’s nightstand.

I pulled back and frowned as I rolled over to grab it. My phone went to Do Not Disturb every night, and there was a very short list of people who could bypass it. My mom, Keaton, and our landlord.

Richard’s name flashed on the screen. “Oh no.” A call from your landlord in the middle of the night was never a good thing.

“Shit,” Lucas said when he sawLandlord Richardon my phone screen.

“Hello?”
