I squeezed his hand before letting go then grabbed my laptop off the coffee table and opened what I’d been working on all evening. After launching the PowerPoint into presentation mode, I placed the computer on Sky’s lap.
“What’s this?” He frowned.
“I may have gone a bit overboard with the clipart. I’m not a graphic designer.” I had to admit, it was a dorky opener.Jesse’s Big Ideain bold letters with a stick figure pointing toward a light bulb over its head. I laughed to myself.
“I got the job.” Skylar read the text on the next slide. “What job?”
“I’m a game designer now.”
Sky looked between me and the computer several times. “Seriously? You are? Holy shit, J! Holy shit!” Sky put the laptop down and pulled me in for a tight hug. “I’m so proud of you. What happened? Why didn’t you text me?”
I explained my whirlwind day and the way Chad’s face had turned red when I’d told him that I would be leaving his team soon. Sky might not know the extent of Chad’s suckitude, but he knew enough to know it warranted an epic high five.
“Thank you for helping make this happen,” I said with as much emotion as I could manage in a few words.
Sky took my hand and squeezed. “This was all you. It could have been any consultant in that room. Your ideas and your boldness with Rick are what got your foot in the door. Your brilliance and work ethic took you the rest of the way. You deserve this, J.”
The back of my eyes burned. “Thank you,” I whispered.
He kissed me gently. Affection and pride filled me with each press of his lips.
It would have been easy to lose myself to his kisses, but I needed to get through my plan. “Back to the presentation. There’s lots more.”
Sky looked confused but accepted the laptop and flipped to the next slide. He silently looked at a map of Orlando with the theme parks highlighted. His silence continued through several more slides that detailed itineraries of how to enjoy each park and a list of other things to do and see in Florida. The quiet left my heart racing.
“What’s all this?” Sky finally asked.
I swallowed. “Go to the next slide,” I said, my voice hoarse.
“Apartments?” He sounded confused. The wrinkles on his forehead were adorable.
“For me. Maybe.”
Sky’s head snapped toward me. “What are you talking about?”
I placed my hand on his thigh and squeezed. “I pitched an idea to Ginny when she offered me the job today. She mentioned they’re going to hire a lot of people and many will work remotely for this game. I asked her if I could work remotely on a trial basis, and she agreed to six months to start.”
Skylar gaped at me. “I’m gonna need you to be really direct with me, J. My mind’s all over the place.”
I closed the laptop and set it on the table, then grabbed his hands. “Having you in my life has changed me for the better. I’ve had so much fun with you, but more than that, I’ve felt safe with you. I want to try new things, which is new and really fucking scary.” I swallowed. “I’d also like to see where this could go between us. You’re really special to me.” Bigger, more meaningful words threatened to spill out, but it was too soon for those.
Skylar’s smile grew as his sincere brown eyes softened. “You’re really special to me too.”
“Thank god.”
Sky laughed.
“I was thinking I could work remotely in Orlando for the next six months. I could test out the whole living-somewhere-else-and-working thing while sucking your dick on a regular basis.”
Skylar leaned back against my couch and laughed. He shook his head. A smile played at his lips, then he looked up at me. “I’m falling so hard for you.”
I wasn’t about to have him doubting himself, so I climbed on his lap. “You’re falling for me?”
“Yeah?”
“Jeez. Sound any more hesitant, could ya?” I smirked.
He wrapped his arms around my waist and slid his hands into the back pocket of my jeans. “It’s too soon, right? To be falling this hard for each other? We’ve known each other for like a month and a half.”
