“No matter how psycho he is, he has always been more or less good to us. Maybe it’s because of the blood ties; maybe it’s something else.” Luca shrugged. “All I know is that I don’t want another Italian meddling in our business.”

“I know.”

“And nothing is stopping you from asking her to marry you in Vegas.”

I grimaced. “That’s a bit tacky.”

“It doesn’t have to be. All that matters is who you’re asking and how you feel.” He pointed his fingers toward the greenhouse. “I asked Cassie to marry me after her kidnapping, while she was in bed. Not ideal and yet…”

“Yes.” I stood up. “I'll think about it.”

“Dom?” he called after I turned around to leave.

“Yeah?”

“Could I please get my son back?”

“Oh yeah.” I let out a chuckle as I freed Marco from the baby carrier. “Be honest though, he is really cute like that.”

“Maybe…” he admitted reluctantly.

“Okay, I’m going to tell India that plans have changed. Wish me luck.”

“You don't need luck; the woman loves you.”

“Yeah, and if it doesn’t work, my magical penis will fix it.”

“Dom,per l’amor di Dio!”

“That’s basically what she says too when—”

Luca raised his left hand. “And we’re done here.”

I looked at him, cradling Marco lovingly against his chest, and felt the need again. I wanted babies with India. I wanted all of that. Now I just needed to see if she wanted it too. It was a big decision to have children within the Mafia. Our kids, just as Luca and Cassie’s kids, would never be free, not really, and I knew India would be concerned about that. How could she not?

I found them in the greenhouse talking to Arabella about the plants they were taking care of.

“Sorry to interrupt girl time.” I winked at India who had a pair of shears in her hand.

I loved how her face lit up when she saw me. It made my heart stall in my chest every time and I still had a hard time believing how much she loved me. Even with all the darkness, even knowing all of my sins, she still loved me.

“Do you mind if I kidnap India for a minute?”

Cassie laughed, gesturing me away. “No, you can have her but bring her back, okay?”

I looked at India walking toward me, swaying her hips a little more than necessary. “I can’t promise you that.” And it was not a lie. I was going to take her south by the wooded area in the garden, protected from prying eyes. I could probably sweet-talk her into a quickie against a tree.

“You’re canceling our weekend,” she said matter-of-factly just as we started down the path.

I turned toward her briskly. I didn't expect her to guess so easily.

I grabbed her hand, intertwining our fingers together. I just had to touch her when I was near her; there was no other way.

“I saw Matteo arrive. I know better than to think it was for some brotherly time.”

I leaned against her and nudged her playfully. “I’m sorry.”

She pulled our hands up and kissed the back of mine. “Don’t be, I understand. Just promise me to be careful.”
